The Last Caretaker puts you in charge of a robot whose mission is to save humanity. Your task is to search for supplies, explore the environment, and gather everything needed to rebuild civilization. As you play, you’ll encounter various options to make your journey easier and more effective. One such option is enhancements.
Enhancements help you survive longer and complete tasks more quickly. You earn enhancement points as you progress through the game, which you can use to increase your health, improve your internal battery’s capacity and efficiency, or make activities like building, repairing, crafting, dismantling, and lifting faster and less resource-intensive. Additionally, enhancements allow you to carry more items at once.
Points are awarded in groups of five as you level up, and you can spend up to 100 points in each of the eight categories. This means you can make building, crafting, dismantling, and repairing up to half faster, increase your battery size by 50%, boost overall efficiency by 50%, raise your health pool by 100 points, and carry an extra 50 kilograms of weight and lift with 50% greater capacity and efficiency.
Below are all eight enhancements, their descriptions, and how they influence your gameplay.
| Enhancement | Description | Notes |
|——————-|———————————————————————————|——————————————————————————|
| Vitality | Adds +1 to your vitality (health) | Your health bar |
| Haul Mastery | Increases your carry weight by 1 kilogram | Allows you to carry heavier items |
| Improved Hydraulics | Boosts lifting capacity and efficiency by 1% | Makes lifting heavier items easier and higher |
| Engineering | Reduces build time and resource use by 0.5% | Faster and more efficient construction and crafting |
| Pressure | Increases diving pressure capacity by +1 meter | Enables deeper dives |
| Scrapper | Improves repair and dismantle speed and efficiency by 0.5% | Repairs and dismantling consume less energy and time |
| Battery | Enlarges internal battery capacity by 20 watt-hours | Stores more energy for your robot |
| Power Management | Cuts down electricity use by 0.5% | Reduces battery consumption in all activities |
In the early stages of the game, it’s best to focus on enhancements that boost battery life and energy efficiency, such as Power Management and Battery. Since your internal battery drains constantly—especially when dismantling items—these enhancements are key to survival. If the battery runs out, your vitality will also decrease, leading to game over if it hits zero. Initially, portable power sources can provide small recharges, and many buildings aren’t powered well at the start, so maximizing your battery’s longevity is crucial.
It’s recommended to unlock the OniSparkcell backpack at skill level five. You can charge it, equip it, and it will refill your battery by around 50% once. As you progress, better power solutions become available, and you can split enhancement points between Battery and Power Management since they offer similar benefits. Once better power sources are secured, most of your time will be spent dismantling, repairing, building, and crafting. Because dismantling drains your power more than your modules, increasing your Scrapper skill becomes a priority to save time and conserve battery life.
In the early game, the three most important skills along with vitality are battery, health, and dismantling. Vitality keeps you alive, but with limited enemies early on, your priority should be keeping your battery charged. Drained batteries cause health to drain, so it’s better to keep your internal power topped off. If you do get overwhelmed by enemies, the extra health points won’t matter as much as increasing your battery capacity.
Once your power and health are stable, shift focus to practical skills like Haul Mastery, so you can carry more supplies. Early on, your exploration is limited, but as areas expand, fewer trips back and forth are needed. When you receive certain quests, such as Echoes In The Grave, ensure your diving depth is at least 40 meters, which requires increasing your Hydraulic capacity. Moving larger items and crafting more complex structures will become more frequent, so upgrading Hydraulic and Engineering skills will help reduce the stress of moving objects and speed up the building process.
When leveling enhancement skills, remember the key tips: continually increase your battery capacity alongside new skills, adjust priorities based on your current needs, and combat enemies to earn extra points if necessary.
