This July, capturing Ditto, the original transforming Pokémon, is quite the challenge in Pokémon GO due to its clever hiding strategies. Unlike most Pokémon, Ditto doesn’t show up on the map. Instead, it cleverly disguises itself as various other Pokémon, making it elusive and tricky to catch.
Unlike some seasonal changes, like those to Team GO Rocket’s Giovanni, Ditto’s disguises have remained the same since June 2025. The last updates occurred in 2024, but since Ditto is so rare, it’s helpful to revisit the list of Pokémon it can mimic.

11 Pokémon That Ditto Can Imitate
Despite some updates in Pokémon GO, Ditto’s disguises are unchanged from last month. It can still take on the appearance of 11 different Pokémon from the first seven generations. In July 2025, Ditto can mask itself as:
- Oddish (Gen 1)
- Goldeen (Gen 1)
- Rhyhorn (Gen 1)
- Koffing (Gen 1)
- Spinarak (Gen 2)
- Numel (Gen 3)
- Bidoof (Gen 4)
- Solosis (Gen 5)
- Gothita (Gen 5)
- Bergmite (Gen 6)
- Stufful (Gen 7)
To catch Ditto, you must first capture one of the above Pokémon. While it might actually be the Pokémon itself, there’s also a chance it’s a disguised Ditto. You’ll find out when you catch it, as you’ll see the message “OH,” right before it transforms into the recognizable Gen 1 Pokémon.
How to Boost Your Chances of Finding Ditto
Using Lures and Incense to Enhance Spawns
Even though Ditto has been around in Pokémon GO for years, there’s no surefire way to find one. However, you can enhance your chances using a few methods. During July 2025, items like Incense, Lures, and Daily Incense can help increase the number of Pokémon that spawn near you. This, in turn, raises the likelihood of encountering one of Ditto’s disguises. When you spot a potential disguise, capture every one of them to maximize your chances of finding Ditto.
Everyday items you can easily obtain are essential for finding Ditto in Pokémon GO.
Incenses, Lures, and Daily Incense will increase the number of Pokémon spawning either around you or in specified locations. This raises the chance of encountering the 11 Pokémon that Ditto can disguise itself as. So, once you’ve deployed these items and spotted a potential disguise, catch them all for better odds of finding Ditto.
Utilizing these items might also lead you to the rare shiny Ditto. While it looks identical to the regular Ditto, it features a blue hue. Ditto remains one of the most exclusive Pokémon in Pokémon GO, but you can enhance your chances of locating one this month.
