Engineers play a vital role in Battlefield 6, especially on larger, open maps where heavy vehicles like tanks can dominate. On smaller maps, their usefulness is limited unless they have a specific loadout. When used correctly, Engineers become some of the most valuable players, capable of supporting their team with essential gadgets and weapons.
However, playing as an Engineer can be challenging without proper knowledge. Their gadgets are more complex than those of other classes, and their weapons may not be effective at all ranges.
Engineer Weapon Skills
Engineers excel with SMGs, gaining a bonus that improves hipfire control. While their signature weapon bonus isn’t very powerful, mastering engagement distances allows SMGs to deliver high damage efficiently. Keep in mind, these weapons work best within a 50-meter range, making them the most mobile and accurate option for close to mid-range fights.
Engineer Gadgets
Most gadgets revolve around vehicle destruction and support. The main tool is the Repair Tool, which can repair friendly vehicles or cause significant damage to enemy vehicles. Other gadgets include:
- MBT-LAW: An easy-to-use missile that automatically tracks ground targets if the shot is close enough.
- SLM-93A SPIRE: Designed for air vehicles, it’s more effective than some other options at hitting moving air targets.
- RPG-7V2: A simple, unguided rocket that does high damage—perfect when anti-tracking gadgets aren’t in use.
- MAS 148: A longer-range missile capable of locking onto both ground and air targets, but with a longer delay before firing.
- M136 AT: A guided missile fired by your own crosshairs, letting you maneuver around obstacles and avoid enemy countermeasures.
- Vehicle Supply Crate: Replenishes friendly vehicle ammo and cooldowns; ideal for busy areas.
- AV Mine: Detonates when vehicles pass over, helping trap or slow enemies.
- PTKM-1R: These mines detect vehicle sounds and attack from above, useful for hiding and ambushing.
- EOD Bot: An autonomous drone that repairs vehicles, disables enemy gadgets, or self-destructs where needed.
- M4A1 SLAM: A proximity mine that’s easier to hide and activates when enemies come near, great for ambushes.
Throwables for Engineers
Engineers can carry three primary types of grenades:
- Frag Grenade: Standard anti-infantry explosive, less effective against vehicles.
- AV Grenade: Explodes on impact, dealing significant damage to vehicles but less to infantry.
- Mini Grenade: Smaller, can be thrown farther, with a reduced explosion size. Used mainly for precise, longer-range throws.
Engineer Training Paths
Each Engineer has two training paths. The second becomes available after completing a class challenge:
- Anti-Armor: Boosts damage and effectiveness against enemy vehicles, including faster reloads for rockets and extra rockets.
- Combat Engineer: Focuses on repairing vehicles faster, automatically repairing when entering, and reducing gadget heat buildup. It’s more suited for supporting friendly vehicles.
Signature Trait
The Engineer’s unique trait reduces full explosive damage when near a friendly vehicle, often saving their life in vehicle explosions. They also prevent enemies from hijacking nearby abandoned vehicles, provided they stay close by.
