As you explore various areas in The Living Lands while playing Avowed, you’ll come across numerous main quests. If you’re looking to boost your character’s abilities and earn additional attributes, make sure to seek out side quests marked with a unique symbol on the map.
One such quest is called "Fires In The Mine," located in the Shatterscarp region. To initiate this quest, simply speak to the Aedyran Soldier at Eagle’s Reach, who will inform you about ongoing issues in the Sulfur Mines.
Getting to the Sulfur Mines
The primary goal of this quest involves reaching the Sulfur Mines in the northwest section of Shatterscarp. However, the elevator near Eagle’s Reach will be inactive at the start of the quest, so you’ll need to find an alternative route.
Begin your journey by heading south from Eagle’s Reach and moving east until you come across a burned village named Scaedclef. After navigating through the village, look for a path leading northeast that takes you to the Deadfall Highlands Party Camp. From there, you can head west to arrive at the Sulfur Mines Basecamp.
Clearing the Spider Nests
Upon arriving at the base camp, talk with the two individuals in charge to receive the assignment of eliminating spider nests within the mines. Follow the quest marker to locate the mine’s entrance, and here’s how to systematically destroy the nests:
Once inside, stick to the main path while checking the nooks on your left for some hidden chests. After arriving at an open area, ascend the stairs on the left and follow the minecart tracks to the right.
At this point, break the spiderweb with fire, and move ahead. Be prepared to face a giant spider in your path and continue navigating through smaller openings. You’ll soon need to leap across a few platforms and will encounter another spiderweb along the minecart tracks.
Smash this web and jump over the damaged section of the tracks. You’ll then drop into a larger area containing the first group of eggs that must be destroyed. Be ready for an intense fight, as this will initiate a lengthy battle, so equip your weapons and armor in advance.
After you take care of the first nest, exit through the alternate path, where you can easily locate the second nest on your left. Additionally, this route will lead you to a golden sarcophagus housing unique clothing called Magran’s Force.
What To Do With Darle
After destroying both spider nests, as you prepare to leave the mines, you’ll encounter Darle. He will inform you of his intention to blow up the entrance, believing it will prevent conflict between Aedyr and Thirdborn. At this juncture, you have two options:
-
Allow Darle to proceed with his plan, which will lead to increased tension between Kada and Ilena outside, yielding no rewards for you.
- Challenge Darle and defeat him, which will grant you various loot items and an additional 900 currency from Ilena for restoring functionality to the mines.
While this quest doesn’t significantly impact the storyline, opting not to let Darle blow up the mines is the more beneficial choice, as it earns you greater rewards.
