A long-forgotten PSP RPG series is making its comeback on the new generation with remastered versions for the PS5 and PS4, scheduled for release on June 18, 2026. The series, originally known as R-Type Tactics (or R-Type Command in the U.S.), returns after nearly twenty years under the new title R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos.
R-Type Tactics initially launched in 2007 as a tactical RPG. While it didn’t achieve widespread success, it did spawn a sequel—R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate—though it was only released in Japan. Now, both titles are getting a worldwide release across multiple platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch (both generations), and PC.
The collection, R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos, features both games in one bundle.
“This two-game collection of the classic R-Type Tactics series arrives on modern consoles for the first time, offering a diverse arsenal of unique units to deploy across dozens of levels,” an official statement reads. “Players can undertake multiple campaigns against the Bydo Empire or even choose to play as the enemy themselves. The choices are in your hands!”
The remastered package will also include a brand new set of missions that continue the story beyond the conclusion of the second game.
