The 1990s were a golden era for video game mascots. Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega and Crash Bandicoot from PlayStation became iconic platformers enjoyed on multiple consoles. While not as universally adored as those legendary characters, Bubsy the yarn-collecting feline has somehow endured through the years. Now, Bubsy is gearing up for his next journey in Bubsy 4D, and PlayStation fans won’t have to wait much longer to play.
According to a new trailer, Atari announced that Bubsy 4D will launch on May 22 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Currently, interested players can add the game to their PlayStation Store wishlist. When available for pre-order, it will be priced at $19.99.
Here’s the latest trailer along with a brief overview of what players can expect from Bubsy 4D:
“Join Bubsy on a brand-new intergalactic platforming adventure! Believe it or not, the most notorious wisecracking bobcat is back in 3D with fresh challenges, new moves, and even more personality—this time, in space! Sprint, jump, glide, and roll across alien planets, fight robotic sheep, and gather vast quantities of yarn. What could possibly go wrong?”
Bubsy first debuted in 1993 with Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. The franchise saw three additional releases in the 1990s, with Bubsy 3D in 1996 marking its last appearance for quite some time. The series went dormant for over two decades until Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back arrived in 2017, though it received mostly negative reviews. Despite that, Bubsy: Paws on Fire! came out in 2019. Bubsy 4D represents his second comeback and the first 3D game since Bubsy 3D.
