Choosing a job in Abiotic Factor isn’t just about flavor; it directly impacts how quickly you can train skills and your trait points. Each profession grants a specific number of Trait points and provides early bonuses in key skills. When you select a job, it may also automatically assign certain Traits or equipment.
Every job starts with basic skill levels and a Trait point budget that’s influenced by both positive and negative traits. Positive traits reduce your available points, making your benefits more limited, while negative traits increase your pool of points, allowing you to pick more perks. These choices are important—having a job with a 50 percent XP boost in a crucial skill helps you level up faster than switching jobs later.
Abiotic Factor Class Tier List
S Tier Jobs
These are top-tier options that provide extensive utility, synergy, or game-changing perks. They perform well solo or in groups and often start you with strong traits and gear.
- Lab Assistant: Offers broad utility with bonuses to Engineering, First Aid, and Research. Starts with a Lockpick Kit and Duct Tape, and has a faster learning rate, making it a versatile, beginner-friendly choice that fits well into any team or solo run.
- Paratheoretical Physicist: Grants strong bonuses to Chemistry, Physics, and First Aid. Comes equipped with the unique Paratheory Reader, which speeds up learning and reveals special nodes on the map. Excels as a supporting role, boosting team efficiency with long-term benefits.
A Tier Jobs
These are strong, reliable picks with consistent utility and combat potential, though slightly less impactful than S Tier. They often excel in specific roles:
- Epimedical Bionomicist: Focuses on First Aid and Cooking, improving health management and recovery. Its healing skills and support role make it great in multiplayer sessions, especially for ongoing healing needs.
- Archotechnic Consultant: Starts with high Electronics and Engineering, making it excellent for late-game automation and tech strategies. It provides useful tools like a portable charger for advanced machinery.
- Defense Analyst: Contains skill boosts for Firearms, Engineering, and Athletics. Comes with a ranged weapon and ammo, making it suited for frontline combat or defending bases. Its strengths lie in combat, not exploration or crafting.
B Tier Jobs
These jobs can be effective but require more effort to maximize their potential:
- Trans-Kinematic Researcher: Specializes in Engineering and Electronics, with a unique passive reducing fall damage. Useful for exploring dangerous areas and crafting tools.
- Phytogenetic Botanist: Focuses on botany and chemistry, with faster plant growth and extra harvesting items. Best suited for sustainable resource production and long-term survival.
- Summer Intern: Starts with minimal gear but offers complete trait customization. Ideal for experienced players who want to craft a unique build, though it’s less beginner-friendly.
C Tier Jobs
These offer niche benefits but are less generally useful, especially early on:
- Somatic Gastrologist: Centers on Cooking and First Aid, with perks like stamina recovery and hunger reduction. Starts with high-quality food, which helps solo runs, but lacks broader skills applicable in many scenarios. Its limited range and support make it less versatile early or mid-game.
Most players will find jobs in higher tiers provide more immediate and longer-term advantages, but lower-tier options can still be useful in specific circumstances or for specialized strategies.
