Welcome to the Festival in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In the early parts of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you can participate in a lively festival where you’ll have the chance to collect tokens and trade them for amazing prizes. There are several ways to earn these tokens, but options for spending them are limited. Keep in mind that this festival is only available for a short time; once you leave this area, the story will progress, and you won’t return until your next playthrough.
Before moving on, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of the festival in Clair Obscur. This includes a full guide on how to earn tokens and a list of all the prizes you can obtain.
How to Earn Festival Tokens in Clair Obscur
One Token for Showing Up
As soon as you arrive at the festival, you receive one token just for attending. Don’t rush to spend it right away! It’s wise to wait until you decide which prizes you truly want or if you can gather enough tokens to buy everything.
Trivia Mini-Game
To get your second token, find a bald man named Antoine behind a nearby table. He’ll challenge you to a quick trivia game. If you answer all three questions correctly, he’ll reward you with another token. One question is likely already familiar to you, and the other two should be intuitive. Here’s the Q&A:
-
Q: When did the Fracture occur?
- A: 67 years ago
-
Q: Which expedition was the first to head to the continent?
- A: Expedition Zero
- Q: What is a Lumina?
- A: Abilities gained by using a Pictos repeatedly in battle
Once you answer correctly, Antoine will hand you your second token. The good news? You can take the quiz as many times as you need until you succeed, so you can’t really fail.
Battling Maelle
To earn your final token, you’ll need to defeat Maelle in a friendly match. You’ll find her at the end of the dock, staring out at the sea. Approach her to start the duel. Similar to Antoine, she’ll let you keep trying until you win and earn the token.
Maelle may be a tough opponent early in the game, but focusing on timing your parries will be key. Listen closely to the sound effects of her attacks—they can guide you better than her movements alone. Mastering this skill will benefit you throughout the game.
What Can You Get with Your Festival Tokens?
Weird Pictos
First, head to the left booth and talk to Tom. He’ll sell you a Weird Pictos for one token. While it may seem useless for now, once you reach Gestral Village, a merchant will convert it into a useful Pictos. This item will enhance your damage and speed considerably. Though it’s not the best Pictos in the game, it has its advantages.
A Haircut
Next door, Amandine offers a stylish haircut for a token. If you choose this option, you’ll unlock the Bun hairstyle for Gustave. This is purely a cosmetic change and doesn’t affect his abilities.
If you can grab only two tokens—possibly due to struggling against Maelle—consider spending them on the Pictos and the artifact, skipping the haircut as it may not be worth your while.
An Artifact
Finally, at the rightmost booth, Colette will offer you an artifact for a token. She has no clue what it does, but this Old Key will be valuable later in the game when you explore a place called Old Lumière. At that point, your party will split. To find something special, navigate from the Left Street rest point forward, bypassing the glowing sword. Enter through an opening in the wall and head right to traverse between two buildings. Drop down onto a hidden tower, collect the Polished Chroma Catalyst, and find a gate inside. Opening it unlocks a unique journal entry from a survivor of the Fracture.
While these tokens may not have immediate use, they’re worth collecting as you navigate through Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
