How to Defeat Mimes in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Mimes Immediately Build a Defensive Wall When Combat Starts
Mimes are distinct adversaries found in various main and side quests throughout the continent and require some strategy to defeat. Upon combat initiation, Mimes erect a protective wall that significantly enhances their health and defenses, even if you manage a First Strike. This ability is fundamental to all Mimes. When facing them, it’s advantageous to equip skills and weapons that inflict high Break Bar damage or utilize the Break ability, such as Gustave’s Overcharge skill.
Each Mime has two primary attacking combos. Their first is a three-strike hand combo: a left swing, a right swing, followed by a head bash. Once you learn the timing, these attacks can easily be parried, so it’s best to commit this to memory for future encounters. The second attack involves chaotic strikes with a Mime hammer, consisting of four total strikes—two rapid hits followed by a brief pause and then two slower strikes.
If a Mime gets boosted in battle, various strategies exist to break their shields, but utilizing Free Aim to eliminate shields before launching a skill is the most effective approach.
As the game progresses, you may face multiple Mimes or even have them alongside other enemies during a single encounter. The key tactic is to successfully parry their attacks, as this typically accumulates substantial Break Bar damage. Once you deplete their Break Bar, they become vulnerable, allowing you to inflict significant damage.
All Mime Locations & Rewards in Clair Obscur
From Baguette Outfits to Unique Haircuts, Mimes Offer Special Rewards
In Clair Obscur, each Mime drops a specific outfit or hairstyle for one of the six playable characters. For instance, defeating the first Mime located in Lumiere at the beginning of Act 1 rewards you with a collectible record and unlocks the Connoisseur trophy/achievement. Mimes can also be located in less obvious spots, often hiding around corners, such as the Mime in Sirene. Here’s a breakdown of the areas where Mimes can be found, along with their associated rewards:
Notably, there’s a unique Mime location in the late game during Act 3, where you’ll need Esquie to fly to the Sunless Cliffs in the eastern part of the continent. Inside a small cave, there’s a mysterious mist-veiled doorway that you can interact with. At this point, each character can engage in a one-on-one duel against a Mime, earning the Bald Haircut for every character, as well as The One Pictos, which sets a character’s health to 1 but greatly enhances critical rate.
In summary, Mimes are distinctive enemies with substantial defenses that challenge you to build Break Bar damage to stun and deplete their health. They typically drop outfits and hairstyles as rewards, along with providing considerable experience. Although their health and defenses increase as you progress, none are unbeatable if you have appropriately leveled and prepared your party in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
