Borderlands is famous for its Vaults, and in Borderlands 4, hunting for Vaults becomes even more exciting. Vaults are secret areas players need to find, and each one requires collecting pieces of a special key called Vault Fragments.
With the game’s launch promising intense looter-shooter action, players will want to gather all the Vault Fragments and unlock every main Vault. There’s a way to find these Fragments, locate the Vaults, and reach the final area of each region’s Primordial Vault.
How Vault Fragments Work in Borderlands 4
Use Silos to Find Clues About Fragment Locations
In Borderlands 4, finding Vaults involves a straightforward but time-consuming process. There are three main Primordial Vaults to discover, plus a fourth Vault that’s part of the main story.
Each region of Kairos—The Fadefields, Terminus Range, and Carcadia Burn—has Silo locations that you need to find and activate. When you capture a Silo, your map will show a yellow circle indicating where you should explore. When you reach that area, you enter a “hot and cold” game, where more yellow bars fill on your HUD as you get closer to the Vault Fragment.
Collecting all three Fragments in a region gives you a hint about where the Vault entrance is. You use the same method to find the Vault itself.
Once inside a Vault, you’ll face waves of enemies and a final boss called a Primordial Guardian. Beating these bosses unlocks powerful gear and upgrades that can only be obtained by defeating them.
Vault and Fragment Locations in Different Regions
The Fadefields
Fragments are near Stillshore, The Launchpad, and Rosemary’s Reserve. The first two are straightforward once you have the map, but the one in Rosemary’s Reserve requires opening a grate on the north side of the structure.
The Vault in this region is called The Arch of Inceptus, located in Dissected Plateau, south of The Stubs. After entering, you survive a tough gauntlet until facing the boss, Inceptus.
The Terminus Range
Fragments here are found in Cuspid Climb (north of the Reliquary Silo), on a mountain ledge, and near Windspear and Low Leys inside the Vestal Garrison. The Vault entrance, the Arch of Origo, is south of Checkpoint Taupe, behind a cave near an Augur Shrine.
Carcadia Burn
Fragments are in Ruined Sumplands, near northeast Hull’s Handbasket; Tonnage Peel, west of the wreck of the Last Great Hope; and Lopside, on a building south of the Makeshift Shalet safehouse. The Vault, the Arch of Radix, is located between Crumblehawl and Stopflow Bowels, hidden near an oasis. Defeating Radix unlocks an achievement called “Nothing Left To Guard.”
Rewards for Vault Hunting
Completing all Vaults and defeating the bosses rewards players with loot like guns, XP, Eridium, and rare weapons. Each Vault provides valuable enemies and loot chests. Additionally, players gain upgrades for their Glide Packs—faster regeneration in The Fadefields, shorter delay in Terminus Range, and half-price cost in Carcadia Burn.
Finally, defeating Radix and finishing these Vaults completes the “Nothing Left To Guard” achievement.
