So, how do yields function in Civilization 7? Whether you’re new to the franchise or a returning pro, here’s a straightforward guide to maximizing the yields from your cities.

Understanding Yields

As your civilization evolves from primitive society to advanced realms, you’ll accrue yields, which are vital resources that enhance your civilization’s stability, influencing everything from research to citizen satisfaction.

Overall, there are seven main yield types in Civilization that players should monitor closely.

  • Tile improvements
  • Specific buildings enhance production
  • Upgrading nearby towns

Food

Food yield affects each individual city. Increasing food leads to population growth and expansion of city borders.

Improvement Method

Details

Focus on Towns

Town focuses help improve yields within towns and can also boost city production.

Excess production converts into gold for other units and aspects.

Utilize Adjacency Bonuses

Some buildings and improvements gain adjacency bonuses from nearby Wonders or structures.

By optimizing these adjacency bonuses, you can frequently double or triple your yield from that tile.

Employ Specialists

Specialists enhance yields in urban tiles.

Each tile can house a maximum of two specialists, influenced by population growth.

Establish Unique Quarters

Quarters emerge when constructing two civilization-specific buildings on the same tile.

This method of gaining yield improvements is more specialized but can be viable depending on your civilization and available buildings.

Stack Social Policies

Some social policies incrementally boost yields.

Check for available policies that could enhance specific yields when unlocking new policy slots.

Overbuilding

During the ages, some buildings may lose their adjacency and yield bonuses.

Overbuilding helps reclaim those bonuses on tiles you’ve previously improved each time your city population increases.

While it may be a less direct route, some social policies or effects might enhance your civilization’s happiness, culture, or science if you can acquire certain luxury resources through trade.

For instance, the Trade Winds policy yields gold and happiness for each imported resource.
