Sony has begun sending out emails with codes for a new PS5 system software update beta scheduled for February 2026, just under two weeks after the previous firmware release. Users started receiving these emails before the weekend, but, surprisingly, no one has been able to download the update so far.
Official patch notes for the February 2026 PS5 system update beta list the following:
– Unicode 17.0 emojis are now supported, allowing you to use them in messages.
– Improvements have been made to messaging and usability on various screens.
– Performance and system stability have been enhanced.
These updates appear minor and unlikely to require a beta test, yet Sony has been distributing email codes for it. However, the codes provided in these emails are not working at this time. This has been confirmed through comments on gaming forums and social media channels.
It seems this may not have been intended as a beta release. Regardless, the patch notes indicate that support for Unicode 17.0 emojis is coming soon. Previously, Unicode 16.0 emoji support was added in version 25.02-11.00.00.
We will keep you updated once more details about this system software beta become available.
