Here are some helpful tips for newbies diving into Silk Song, especially if you’ve been caught up in all the excitement and are now realizing how tough it can be.
This game isn’t easy by any means, but I’ve gathered some advice to help you keep going and stay calm while exploring Pharloom. From abilities to focus on, to items to gather and side quests to finish, these tips should give you a good start. Good luck, traveler!
1. Practice patience
Silk Song is a tough game. Whether Hornet is showing off impressive jumping skills or fighting multiple enemies at once, it pushes all your skills to the limit.
The best thing you can do is stay patient. Move purposefully, and don’t get frustrated when you hit a wall. Sometimes it’s smarter to find a bench and take a rest before trying again. You’ll find it easier to spot enemy patterns once you unlock the Swift Step skill, which lets you dash and run in midair, giving you a better look at opponents’ moves.
2. Make the most of Heal Bind (and improve it)
Heal Bind is Hornet’s first special skill that uses silk to heal her wounds. It’s incredibly useful because it gives you extra chances in tricky sections, but it takes some time to activate and keeps Hornet stationary (though you can use it in mid-air).
After beating Lace in Deep Docks, head over to Far Fields. There, you’ll find a hidden route on the left with sunlight shining through. Jump up on a corpse nearby to find a Warding Bell, which, when equipped, shields Hornet during her healing animation.
3. Prepare each new area before exploring extensively
Getting to a new spot can feel confusing at first. It’s wise to buy a map and find a nearby bench for a quick save. Also, uncover a fast travel point—this game has stations you can unlock with rosaries, making it easier to go back to places.
Try to gather as much information and equipment as possible before venturing too deep. This makes exploration less stressful and more efficient.
4. Complete side quests and grant wishes
Wishes in Silk Song are like side missions. Some give extra rosaries, but others are key to progressing through the game. Focus on completing the Mossberries quest and collecting Spin Cores for the Seamstress.
Doing these quests rewards you with useful items like the Druid’s Eye and Drifter’s Cloak, which help Hornet in combat and allow her to glide from platform to platform more easily.
5. Use and spend your shards wisely
Shards are a resource used to craft and restore gear at benches. Many players tend to hoard them, but unlike rosaries, shards don’t drop when you die. If you save too many, you might hit the limit of 400, preventing you from collecting more.
It’s smarter to spend shards on things like Wishes so you’re always prepared for upcoming challenges.
6. Backtrack often
Exploring in Silk Song often requires returning to previous areas after gaining new abilities. Revisit earlier spots regularly—it can lead to new secrets or upgrades, like extra health or rosaries needed for upgrades.
Key abilities that make backtracking easier include Swift Step, which helps you dash and jump further, especially useful in horizontal platforming, and Cling Grip, which is like a wall jump to climb steep surfaces, opening up new paths.
If platforming feels difficult, making friends with the Seamstress in Far Fields is a great idea. Her quest to get the Drifter’s Cloak is quick, and the item itself acts like a safety net—allowing you to glide back to the platform if you fall or retry tricky jumps, saving your patience.
Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll find Silk Song a bit more manageable. Stay patient, explore smartly, and enjoy the journey!
