Beginner's Guide to Completing Duet Night Abyss and Solving Challenges

Duet Night Abyss is an interesting game because it originally started as a typical gacha game, but it changed significantly before its release. Now, you can unlock all characters and weapons without spending any money. The only gacha aspect now is for limited and standard character skins.

This change also made the game feel more like an MMO. While it doesn’t have many multiplayer features, it does involve a lot of grinding if you want to reach the endgame quickly. Luckily, there are helpful tips to lessen this grind.

Save Your Prismatic Hourglasses

Although the gacha system no longer includes characters and weapons, it still requires a lot of investment. One key thing to remember is that when you use your Prismatic Hourglasses to pull limited skins, these pulls are not carried over to future banners. So, if you don’t get the rare drop, your efforts might be wasted.

The limit for getting the golden drop is 90 pulls, which guarantees you will receive the limited skin, regardless of other outcomes. However, gathering enough Prismatic Hourglasses to make multiple pulls is difficult. Besides a few launch events, you typically get around ten Prismatic Hourglasses per banner through daily logins and maybe a few more from events. Without spending real money, it’s impossible to collect all limited skins.

Tip: Consider purchasing Phoxene Plumule packs with real money if you want to obtain these skins.

For free-to-play or low-spending players, it’s best to save your Prismatic Hourglasses for skins that you’ll want to keep for a long time.

Don’t Invest in Too Many Characters

Since all characters are now unlocked for free, it’s easier to avoid the common mistake in gacha games—spending all your resources upgrading too many characters at once. During early launch, you get lots of free currency like coins and upgrade items, which tempt you to develop many characters. But after launch, the resources you earn drop significantly.

If you spend your early currency on many characters, you’ll end up with a group of decent but unremarkable fighters. To succeed in endgame modes like the Immersive Theatre, you need a few top-tier characters.

Tip: Focus on two or three characters in the early game, while giving some upgrades to a few others. This strategy helps you build a stronger team over time.

Since all characters and weapons are free, it’s also smart to invest heavily in your favorites—Maxing out their abilities and weapons rather than trying to get copies of every character. Collecting enough Secret Letter Clues to unlock and upgrade all characters is difficult, as daily and weekly rewards don’t give enough resources for full coverage.

Complete Your Daily Tasks

There’s a daily planner section in the game where you can find tasks that reset each day and offer various rewards. Doing these tasks is straightforward and helps you accumulate points, which are necessary for progression.

Even if you’re pressed for time, just logging in and completing a few tasks, like a Covert Commission, will help you stay on track.

Learn Character Skills and Mechanics

The combat in Duet Night Abyss revolves around a hack-and-slash style where you constantly fight enemies, who spawn frequently in most game modes. While attacking enemies early on is easy, at higher levels, understanding your characters’ abilities becomes crucial.

For example, Sibylle is powerful in early stages by attack spam, but her damage is primarily driven by her skill and ultimate later. Knowing when and how to use these skills can make defeating enemies easier.

Important: Characters have active and passive skills—each with two active abilities and three passives. Some passives activate only when the character is fighting alongside you.

To maximize your combat effectiveness, explore synergies by understanding your allies’ skills. For example, the main character works well with Sibylle because they boost weapon damage—something other characters’ attack boosts might not do.

Target Boss Weaknesses and Use Proper Strategy

After progressing through the story, you will face bosses with two bars at the top of the screen: one for health and one for stance. Striking the stance bar reduces it gradually; when it drops to zero, the boss is stunned and takes extra damage.

Your normal attacks slowly deplete the stance, but some characters are better suited for this task than others. Once the stance is broken, the boss becomes vulnerable to high damage, and you can activate the Ask’s Retribution ability to deal true damage—just be mindful not to use it prematurely, as it can reduce your overall damage output.

Tip: Watch the stun bar carefully—attack until only a little remains, then use your retribution to maximize damage.

Choose the Right Build for Your Characters

Combat mainly involves quick attacks against enemies that spawn everywhere. Usually, pressing your character’s preferred weapons gives the best damage boosts, which are shown on their info screens. Utilizing your favorite characters and their signature weapons is important because all characters and weapons are free.

As you advance, focus on acquiring specific Demon Wedges for your characters. These are essential for boosting their abilities further.

Tip: Use the best weapons and signatures that suit your favorite characters and upgrade them accordingly. Maxing out these gear pieces will improve your chances in endgame content.

Keep Trying to Beat Endgame Modes

Once you unlock modes like Mystic Maze and Immersive Theatre, they become vital for earning rewards and upgrading characters and weapons. Consistently challenge these modes to improve your scores.

Completing weekly resets of Mystic Maze and reaching the featured character in Immersive Theatre before the weekly reset ends is important for progression. These modes provide necessary items, including Secret Letter Clues, which are valuable for unlocking and upgrading characters.

Explore Your Surroundings

Even after finishing the main story and side quests, exploring the world remains rewarding. Traveling through different civilizations, you’ll encounter NPCs who can provide impressions or trigger hidden quests. These often reward you with valuable items.

Additionally, searching around the various areas for chests, collectibles, Advenspheres, and treasure maps can yield rare resources like Secret Letter Clues. Exploring thoroughly helps you gather more resources for upgrading your characters and weapons.
