Playing as a Paladin in Baldur’s Gate 3 requires dedication. To keep the benefits of your subclass, you must follow the rules of your chosen oath. If you break this oath, you become an Oathbreaker, which changes your subclass and grants you new abilities.
However, the Oathbreaker subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 might not fully embrace the dark side like you want. If you’re looking to experience what it really means to give up your vow, this mod is for you.
Oathbreaker Reborn – Paladin Subclass Redesign by KConstantineK on Nexus Mods completely revamps the Oathbreaker experience. With this mod, you gain new abilities at each level that boost your combat skills but reduce your support for teammates. While the spells are still helpful, they work differently than traditional Paladin abilities.
This Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Gives You A New Way To Play As An Oathbreaker
The new abilities include a mix of existing spells and unique creations from the mod author. Here’s what you can expect at each Oathbreaker level:
- Channel Malice: Spiteful Suffering: Once per fight, harm an enemy for 2 turns. They have Advantage on attacks against them, and when you hit them, they take extra Necrotic Damage based on your Charisma modifier.
- Lay on Hands: Oathbreaker: Use your touch to drain life or weaken a creature. Deal Necrotic Damage equal to two or four times your Charisma modifier and heal the same amount. Or, do no damage while making them weaker (half damage on weapon attacks).
- Malicious Smite: Boost an attack with dark energy, adding 2d8 Force Damage, which increases when attacking aberrations, celestials, fey, or fiends.
- Channel Malice: Dreadful Aspect: Once per short rest, frighten nearby enemies for 2 turns, showing your terrifying presence.
- Channel Malice: Spiteful Suffering: Enemies affected by your Spiteful Suffering take extra Necrotic Damage equal to your Charisma modifier and Proficiency bonus. They also lose any resistance to Necrotic Damage.
- Aura of Hate: You and nearby fiends and undead deal extra damage with melee and unarmed attacks equal to your Charisma modifier.
- Channel Malice: Dreadful Aspect: Once per short rest, unleash your malice for 2 turns, frightening enemies and affecting them with your Spiteful Suffering.
- Improved Malicious Smite: Your attacks deal an additional 1d8 Force Damage.
These abilities replace the more supportive functions that you would typically have, focusing on a darker, more thematic play style that fits the Oathbreaker. This allows you to truly immerse yourself in the experience of abandoning your oath without spending gold to regain it.
It’s important to recognize that you might accidentally break your oath during a Paladin playthrough, especially with the new Oath of the Crown, which requires honesty in all dealings. If you go back on a promise to a villain, you could lose your powers.
