Leveling up in video games needs a careful balance. If you level up too quickly, you become too strong, and the game loses its challenge. On the other hand, if leveling up is too slow, it feels frustrating. Baldur’s Gate 3 has struck a great balance with its leveling system.
The game is designed so that players don’t breeze through levels and become unbeatable, nor do they grind endlessly just to access powerful abilities late in the game. Instead, you can reach level 12 while still having enough content left to enjoy being powerful.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Handles Leveling Up Perfectly
Fans have noticed this smart balancing act. Many appreciate that Larian took their time with the leveling system. One user, Grandkahoona01, commented on Reddit, “You hit max level (12) with plenty of game time left.”
They also pointed out that players can reach level 12 early in Act 3, allowing them to use the game’s strongest spells and abilities for about 10 additional hours.
One player mentioned, “I save the big fights for when I hit level 12. It’s so much fun to go all out with high damage against the tougher bosses in Act 3.” Another added, “The game does a good job of keeping your power in check. Some spells and hit points improve, but it doesn’t unleash all the top spells from the books.”
Even players familiar with tabletop RPGs felt that Larian did a good job. One noted, “As a DM in TTRPGs, I think the level cap is perfect. Going past level 12 in D&D gives you powers that would break the game.”
Of course, some players have used mods to go beyond the level cap for fun, but this is for those who want to experiment.
