The Wasteland Courier Quest
In the game Avowed, players encounter a mission called The Wasteland Courier. You’ll begin this quest by speaking to a noticeably anxious merchant named Thirdborn. He will ask you to retrieve a mysterious package on his behalf but is tight-lipped about its contents. To keep everything under wraps, he won’t even tell you where it is; instead, he instructs you to follow a series of white arrows. The first arrow can be found right next to him.
Fortunately, much of the busywork in this quest is negligible. There’s no significant reward for adhering strictly to the arrows, and you won’t discover anything particularly exciting along the way besides a few minor skirmishes. So, feel free to bypass the arrow trail and head directly to your target location.
Why Are There White Arrows Around Shatterscarp?
You might notice these white arrows scattered across the map even before you take on the quest. Since they are widely spaced apart, it might not be apparent that they lead anywhere specific, and following them can feel pointless. However, these arrows are connected to The Wasteland Courier side quest. That said, they aren’t crucial to completion, as explained further below.
How to Find the Graffiti
During your quest, you will look for “the graffiti.” At the end of the arrow trail, you will find some inscriptions on a stone pillar, indicating that you are nearing your objective. To reach it, make your way to the cave located in the Deadfall Highlands. The cave is right above the ‘d’ in the word “Highlands” on your map. Inside, there’s an arrow indicating a ramp; ascend this ramp to find the entrance to the cave.
Once in the cave, you will notice a curved stone pathway leading to a breakable wooden barrier. Use a standard attack to smash through it, and you will encounter some Crystal Eater Spiderlings—first four, followed by two more. After taking care of them, you’ll come across a chasm ahead. You can jump across to discover the graffiti, but you’re not finished yet.
How to Descend into the Gorge
When you reach the graffiti, move left up the cliffside. Here, you will uncover more graffiti while overlooking a gorge. Unfortunately, the drop is too steep for a jump or slide down. Instead, approach the graffiti to discover that the wooden floor is breakable. Aim downward to attack and then drop through the hole.
Upon landing, you will face more Crystal Eater Spiderlings. After battling through them, navigate the area until you reach a raised ledge on the left side of the arena. Run along this ledge and jump through the opening on the right, which leads you to Aiko’s Campsite, completing the quest.
Should You Take the Drugs in the Package?
When you speak with Aiko, he will seem disoriented, having recently suffered a spider bite. At the end of your conversation, he will ask for 500 copper pieces, but will soon pass away afterward. If you tell him you don’t have the money, he will believe you, and you can loot his body right after, making your choice irrelevant. You also have the option to take the drugs from the package before delivering them. If you do so (as Yatzli might suggest), nothing significant occurs, so this choice doesn’t impact the outcome either.
Should You Return the Package to Daiko or the Tira Nui?
After this, you face one last decision: return the drugs to the courier who originally sent you, or deliver them to the Tira Nui. Finding the Tira Nui isn’t straightforward. If you haven’t completed a bounty for them, you may not have met them yet. To locate them, head to the bounty board and speak to the individual there. If you hand over the drugs, the Tira Nui will thank you and reward you with a Thirdborn Tira Nui Badge, which grants +2 Might when equipped.
If you decide to keep your promise and return to Daiko, he won’t mind if you opened the package. He’ll reward you with a Poisoner’s Kit, enhancing your weapons to deliver +5% Poison Damage. While this reward is more situational, it allows you to remain discreet, so the choice is ultimately yours.
