Animal Crossing: New Horizons features a wide variety of sea creatures that players can collect throughout the game. These creatures are found deep in the ocean. Luckily, with tools like swimming skills, wetsuits, and snorkels, you can catch them pretty easily. Keep in mind, there are about 40 different sea creatures to find, so it will take some time.
Just like catching fish in the game, timing and location are everything when it comes to sea creatures. To help you out, we’ve created a detailed guide on how to catch each one, depending on your hemisphere. But first, you need to know the basics of swimming in the game.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Grab a wetsuit, which you can get from Nook’s Cranny, Nook Shopping, or through Nook Miles Rewards.
2. Put on your wetsuit.
3. Head to the beach or rocky areas near the ocean.
4. Press “A” to jump into the water.
5. Use “A” to swim around.
6. When bubbles rise to the surface, press “Y” to dive.
7. Move over the shadow of the creature by pressing “A” to swim over it.
8. Once over the shadow, you’ll automatically dive down and catch your prize.
Now that you know how to swim, you’re ready to explore the full list of sea creatures available in the game, broken down by hemisphere.
For players in the Northern Hemisphere, creatures appear mainly during specific months and times of day. For example, seaweed is available from January to July and October to December at any hour, while the moon jellyfish shows up from July to September at all hours. Each creature has its own season and time window.
Similarly, in the Southern Hemisphere, the schedule varies. Some creatures like seaweed are available from April to January, while others such as the sea star appear year-round. The exact timing and seasons are different depending on your hemisphere.
This guide will help you plan the best times to catch each sea creature and complete your collection efficiently. Happy fishing!
