Raising your Digimon is one of the most rewarding aspects of Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and there are several ways to do it. You can strengthen them through winning battles, Digivolving into better forms, and leveling up. As your Digimon becomes more powerful, their appearance and abilities will change significantly throughout the game’s story.
Although Time Stranger is quite straightforward, some of its mechanics related to raising Digimon can be confusing, especially if you’re new to the series. One such mechanic is Talent level, which isn’t common in other creature-collection games. Here’s an explanation of what Talent level is, how it works, and how you can raise it.
### What Is Talent Level?
Talent level represents the maximum level your Digimon can achieve. Contrary to what you might expect, the default level cap isn’t 99—it depends entirely on your Digimon’s Talent. This Talent increases as your Digimon gets stronger. When your Digimon reaches its current Talent level, it won’t gain experience or level up until you increase its Talent first.
### How To Increase Talent Level
There are multiple ways to raise your Digimon’s Talent, but the easiest method is to Digivolve your Digimon into higher forms. Every Digimon’s Talent level increases with its Generation, meaning the higher the evolution stage, the higher its default Talent level will start. Once a Digimon reaches a new Generation through Digivolution, its Talent level jumps accordingly.
However, you can’t De-Digivolve your Digimon and then Digivolve again to boost its Talent further. The Talent level is based on the highest Generation your Digimon has achieved and doesn’t decrease if you De-Digivolve.
Besides Digivolution, you can passively improve Talent by engaging in battles. Activities like dealing the final blow to opponents, exploiting enemy weak points, winning without taking damage, or simply fighting with your Digimon will gradually boost its Talent over time. Additionally, training at the Digifarm can contribute to increasing Talent, but these gains happen gradually and aren’t immediately obvious.
While there’s no direct way to see how much each activity raises Talent, regular use of your Digimon in battles will steadily improve their Talent level without requiring many extra steps. Just keep training and fighting, and your Digimon’s Talent will naturally grow.
