In Hades 2, you’ll be battling through the underworld to save your family from Chronos, the Titan of Time. Melinoe has a stash of powerful, legendary weapons, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and playstyle. You’ll need to unlock each weapon individually to access them.
Building on the previous game, there are also special ‘aspects’ to unlock, which can modify your weapons and sometimes be upgraded themselves. These options give you more ways to customize your gameplay and improve your chances during your journey. A dedicated player will aim to unlock and upgrade all of these aspects.
Updated September 24, 2025: We’ve refreshed this guide with new information based on the Hades 2 version 1.0 release.
How to Unlock Every Weapon
There are five weapons in Hades 2. You start with the Witch’s Staff by default, and you can unlock the others by collecting specific recipes:
Weapon | Recipe | Description |
---|---|---|
Witch’s Staff | Unlocked automatically | A medium-range thrusting weapon, easy to use. |
Sister Blades | 1 Silver | Fast close-range attacks; ranged but slow special. |
Umbral Flames | 2 Silver, 2 Cinder | Slow fire staff that keeps enemies at bay; tricky to master. |
Moonstone Axe | 10 Silver | Heavy, slow melee weapon; very powerful; includes a long-range special. |
Argent Skull | 2 Glassrock, 1 Bronze | Throwable skulls with limited ammo, powerful burst damage, needs strategic use. |
Black Coat | 2 Cinder, 2 Adamant | Enemy-seeking specials and mighty attacks. |
Note: The first four weapons are available from the start once unlocked. The Argent Skull becomes available after you’ve progressed significantly, typically found in the third region of the underworld and the first region on the surface path.
How to Unlock Weapon Aspects
Initially, weapons are basic, with only one style. The key to customizing them is unlocking the ‘incantation’ that grants access to Weapon Aspects. These are variants that change parts of your weapon, making them better suited to your preferred style.
To unlock the incantation, you’ll need to defeat Hecate in Erebus and receive the recipe. It’s likely that you must have unlocked all weapons to get this recipe.
Once you have the recipe for the ‘Aspects of Night and Darkness,’ cast it at the cauldron using five Bronze and one Nightshade. After that, you can switch between aspects at the weapon circle in the Training Grounds. All weapons start with Melinoe’s Aspect, their default form, but you can upgrade them to unlock more features and powers.
Below is a list of all aspects, what they do, and the resources needed to unlock each:

How to Unlock Weapon Aspects
To access different weapon aspects, you’ll need to unlock the incantation that allows their use. This recipe is obtained from Hecate after defeating her in Erebus. You probably must have all weapons unlocked first to unlock this aspect upgrade.
The recipe can be cast at the cauldron with five Bronze and one Nightshade. When activated, you can switch aspects at the weapon circle in the Training Grounds. Every weapon begins with Melinoe’s default aspect, and additional aspects can be unlocked through resource use.
All Weapon Aspect Upgrades
Each weapon aspect can be leveled up up to four times, reaching Rank 5. These upgrades either give your weapon new powers—like backstabs—or enhance Melinoe’s capabilities with that weapon.
