Destiny: Rising is a live-service game that sets itself apart from previous series titles through its gacha system. It’s a mobile game where players can pull banners to earn characters, spend microtransactions, and level up a team of characters while exploring and completing missions.
For a mobile game, Destiny: Rising offers a good variety of activities and game modes. This guide will cover all the multiplayer modes available, how to unlock them, and other features like Bounties and the Battle Pass.
Multiplayer, Explained
In Destiny: Rising, you can play in PvP (player vs. player), PvE (player vs. environment), or a mix of both. You can team up with friends, strangers, or bots. Bots fill your squad (a group of three characters) if matchmaking takes too long and you don’t want to wait.
Note that not all modes are available immediately. You start with access to only a few, and you’ll need to progress through the campaign and level up your team to unlock the rest.
Shifting Gates
This mode involves your squad battling against AI enemies and five other squads controlled by real players. Your goal is to collect data dropped by enemies and store it in specific terminals. It becomes available in Chapter 1-2 after completing the tutorial quest “Foresighted Research,” which cannot be missed.
You need to spend 20 Pinnacle Energy to play this mode. Energy fully recovers at 4 a.m. daily, with a maximum of 360 points.
Adventure
Adventure mode features many PvE missions where you can team up with friends or strangers to face threats in the world. Activities include:
- Haven Ops: This includes traditional Strikes and Calamity Ops. Completing Chapter 1-2 unlocks Strikes, while Calamity Ops requires reaching Team Level 70.
- Realm of the IX: The main activity is Singularity, where you fight waves of enemies and earn perks after each round. Reach Chapter 2 to unlock the first Singularity, called Order, with more becoming available as your Power Level increases.
- Morgran’s Prey: Defeat all enemies in rounds, choosing buffs before each new wave, until a boss fight appears. Unlock it after reaching Chapter 2-2 and progressing in the main quest.
- Legacy: Enemies drop Detritus, which must be infused into the Sentinel’s Piece. This unlocks during the first missions of Chapter 2.
- Gauntlet Ops: These are raid missions, requiring completion of a quest in Chapter 4-2.
- Legendary Campaign: A high-difficulty co-op campaign available during certain windows, completed by finishing the “Armageddon” mission late in the game.
Casual
Casual activities are more competitive or fun, aside from solitary pursuits like fishing. They involve shooting enemies and participating in various mini-games or challenges:
- Shadowshaper Duels: A card game available after reaching Chapter 2-3 and completing its side quest. You can play against NPCs or other players.
- Iron Bar: A PvP mode where teams capture zones and prevent opponents from doing the same. Unlocks after completing Chapter 3-2.
- Sparrow Racing: A fun racing mode inspired by larger game titles. It’s unlocked during Chapter 4-3.
Packs
Packs are clans or groups you can create or join. Joining a clan offers social benefits and easier communication for multiplayer activities. You unlock this feature upon reaching Chapter 2-1. You can then create your own Pack, which costs Glimmer, or request to join an existing one, which requires approval.
Once you have a Pack, you’ll receive optional quests related to clan activities. Remember to check those quests in the main menu.
Public Events
Public Events are short cooperative challenges that appear while exploring areas like Jiangshi Metro. They are marked by a pink flag which you interact with to start the event. Enemies may spawn around you, and other nearby players might jump in to help.
Bounties
Bounties are challenges you can complete during any game mode. Finishing them rewards you with Glimmer and Bounty Points, which are used to unlock upgrades for your weapons. Bounties refresh regularly and add an extra layer of goals during gameplay.
Battle Pass
The Battle Pass system includes both a free and a paid version, which costs about $5.45. You earn Battle Pass XP by completing weekly and act quests, involving specific activities across game modes. The XP unlocks rewards for your progress through the Battle Pass tiers.
Can I Play Offline?
No, Destiny: Rising cannot be played offline. You can enjoy the single-player campaign with minimal online interaction, but online activities require a constant connection. This game is always online, meaning you must log into the servers to access multiplayer or any online features.
