Catching rare and powerful legendary Pokémon is often considered the most exciting part of any Pokémon game, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A is no different. However, unlike earlier games, you won’t be able to find these legendaries until you have completed the entire main story.
These legendary Pokémon are tough to catch. Before encountering one, you’ll need to complete several small tasks, followed by a challenging timed battle. Like alpha Pokémon, legendaries demand careful strategy—there’s little room for error. To capture them all, you’ll need to practice your skills and be precise every step of the way.

### How to Start Finding Legendary Pokémon
Legendary Pokémon become available only after finishing the main campaign. All content below the credits is a spoiler, so be warned that the following details reveal major story points.
Legendary Pokémon are locked behind the post-game. They boast much higher base stats and are Shiny-locked, meaning you cannot catch shiny versions of these Pokémon.
There are only three legendaries you can catch:
– Xerneas (The One Who Gives)
– Yveltal (The One Who Takes)
– Zygarde (The Final Boss)
You must complete all main missions up to the ending credits. Once done, the post-game quests unlock, and the legendary hunts begin.

### How to Catch Xerneas
Start by visiting the Pokémon Research Lab. Talk to Mable, who will give you a task: defeat three alpha Pokémon in different zones:
– Zone 3: Steelix
– Zone 5: Gallade
– Zone 9: Pangoro
You can defeat or catch these alphas, but they must be removed from the wild for the quest to count. Afterward, return to Mable, who will direct you to investigate a strange presence in Zone 11, the area with numerous Stunfisk.
Go to the grassy shoreline area and investigate to make Xerneas appear. The encounter will be at level 75 with Fairy typing and moves like Geomancy, Horn Leech, Moonblast, and Megahorn. You cannot fail to catch Xerneas, but saving beforehand is recommended to reset for better stats if desired.

### How to Catch Yveltal
Once the Yveltal quest is active, visit the Nouveau Café. After some dialogue, you’ll unlock the ability to replay challenges of former Rogue Mega Pokémon by defeating three stronger versions of previous bosses:
– Tyranitar (Level 70)
– Victreebel (Level 70)
– Hawlucha (Level 70)
These battles are tougher than before, with Pokémon at level 70, and no help from previous allies. Defeating all three unlocks the Yveltal encounter, which will take place on the rooftop of the Rouge District’s Galleria de la Lune. Climb the scaffolding on the northwest side, then use your Rotom Glide to reach the dome and investigate to trigger the fight.
Yveltal appears at level 75 with Dark/Flying typing, moves like Hurricane, Oblivion Wing, Psychic, and Dark Pulse. Like Xerneas, you can’t fail to catch it; saving before the encounter is good practice to reset for better stats.

### How to Catch Zygarde
After capturing Xerneas and Yveltal, return to Hotel Z. Catching both legendaries triggers the final mission, Main Mission 42: To Keep The World In Balance. Follow Zygarde to Zone 20, where it waits beneath the ruins of Prism Tower.
Zygarde comes in three stages at level 84: 10%, 50%, and the Complete Form. The battle is straightforward if you exploit its weaknesses to Dragon and Fairy-type moves, especially against the Complete Form, where its largest threats are area attacks.
Prepare a Green Canari Plush to help dodge during the Final Form — these large attacks can be frustrating. Once defeated, you can throw a Poké Ball with guaranteed success to capture Zygarde. Afterward, L, a powerful trainer, will challenge you to a battle with Pokémon around level 70–80. The team includes:
– Pyroar (Level 78)
– Florges (Level 78)
– Sableye (Level 78)
– Garbodor (Level 79)
– Noivern (Level 79)
– Mega Gyarados (Level 80)
Defeating L rewards you with the Zygarde Cube, enabling Zygarde to change forms during battles, provided you already possess the Zygardite for Mega Evolution.

### How to Get AZ’s Floette
AZ’s Floette, also called Eternal Flower Floette, is not a legendary but is very special. You can only obtain one per save file, and the process is long and demanding.
First, complete the Infinite Royale challenge 15 times, which involves:
– Earning 50,000 points for a Challenger’s Ticket
– Defeating a random Reward Match opponent each time
– Completing 14 other Reward Matches
It’s possible to accelerate your progress by strategic farming—focusing on certain cards and avoiding spending points early on to save for Challenge Tickets.
On the 15th Reward Match, you will face your rival at level 70, with Pokémon including Meowstic, Goodra, Manectric, and more. After winning, return to Quasartico Inc., where a lengthy cutscene will reveal the story behind your rival and reward you with AZ’s Floette and its Mega Stone—Floettite.
This Floette is at level 72, with a Modest nature, Fairy typing, and moves like Light of Ruin, Energy Ball, Synthesis, and Giga Drain.

Congratulations! Completing all these missions marks the end of the main storyline, with the legendary Pokémon and AZ’s Floette finally in your possession.
