Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island features a randomly generated layout of land, rivers, lakes, and shoreline, and you’ll also get assigned one of five native fruits at the start. If you’re aiming for island perfection, you’ll want to obtain all possible fruits.
No matter which fruit you begin with, it’s possible to find the other four native types, plus an additional fruit variety. Here are all the fruit types and how to acquire them.

How to Get All Fruit Types
While you’ll start with one native fruit, you’ll want to gather the others. To do this, simply dig a hole and bury a fruit of the desired type to grow a new tree. Here are the main ways to collect all different fruits:
Native Fruit
This is the fruit that naturally grows all over your island. It’s sold at Nook’s Cranny for 400 Bells and shown on your passport.
Mystery Island Fruit
Another native fruit is designated as a “sister” fruit, appearing on Mystery Island Tours. You can also find coconuts on these islands.
Mom’s Letter
Shortly after starting the game, your mom will send you a letter with a different native fruit attached.
Villagers
Villagers may gift you fruit, including ones that aren’t native to your island.
Tip: Giving villagers gifts increases the chance they’ll send you a fruit or other helpful items.
Other Players
Getting all the fruits may require help from friends or random players:
- Invite friends to visit your island—they can bring fruits you need.
- Visit other players’ islands and, with permission, take some of their fruit or fruit trees.
Note: You can only dig up and move other players’ fruit trees if you are Best Friends. Otherwise, you can only shake their trees to collect fruit.
What Does Fruit Do?
Fruits serve multiple purposes. They can be used in cooking and crafting, or eaten directly to boost your energy. Eating a fruit provides enough energy to break rocks with a shovel or dig up entire trees.
Tip: Digging up and relocating a full fruit tree is a quick way to move it to your island instead of just taking the fruit.
