If you’re skilled at racing games like Sonic Racing: Crossroads, you know that winning or losing often depends on selecting characters whose main stats match your individual playstyle. While you might pick your favorite character, it’s important to understand their stats first.
You have access to 23 racers from the Sonic universe by default. More characters will be available through downloadable content (DLC), including different forms of these characters and fans from other Sega titles. To pick the best racer for you, consider five key stats.
How to Choose a Racer
While it’s fun to see Sonic characters race across beautiful tracks, if you want to win and beat tough rivals, focus on the driving stats that suit your style.
Each character has five main stats, visible in the parameters menu. These stats show their base abilities and how much you can improve them with gadgets during the race. The stats to evaluate are:
- Speed: Indicates the maximum speed in ideal conditions. Sonic, Shadow, and Blaze are tied for the fastest characters.
- Acceleration: How quickly the character reaches top speed from a standstill. Tails has the best acceleration.
- Handling: The level of steering control, especially for drifting turns. Amy and Silver excel here.
- Power: A character’s weight, allowing heavier characters to push lighter ones aside. Omega and Zavok are the strongest.
- Boost: The ability to accelerate quickly after using an item or power-up. Knuckles, Vector, and Dr. Eggman are the quickest off boosts.
The Default Character Roster
The default list includes characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream & Cheese, Big, Silver, Blaze, and others. Their stats vary, so choosing the right one depends on what kind of driver you want to be.
Playing Style and Stat Priorities
There’s no one best way to play. Your favorite stat depends on your skill and preferences. If you’re a seasoned racer and can handle speed, choosing characters with high Speed is ideal. If you need better control, go for those with strong Handling.
Experimenting with different characters is encouraged. You can change your driver anytime from the main menu to try new styles and find what feels best for you.
