The latest update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—called the “Thank-You” Edition—is now live. It offers lots of free new content that’s sure to keep players entertained for hours. This update is a great way to celebrate the game’s win at The Game Awards 2025 and makes a perfect holiday gift just in time for the festive season.

While the update doesn’t add many side quests in the new Verso’s Drafts area or overall DLC, there is one crucial quest you must complete to enjoy the full DLC experience. As you explore Verso’s Drafts, encountering various Half-baked Gestrals and mini-puzzles, you’ll need to collect three pieces of cake. Doing so will unlock a special area and invite you to a fun birthday party.

All Cake Pieces in Verso’s Drafts and What to Do With Them

Collect Three Pieces of Cake to Unlock the Door & Attend the Birthday Party

Throughout Verso’s Drafts, there are many interesting new places to check out. If you’re talking to characters on the map, you’ve probably already grabbed at least one piece of cake. Its purpose is hinted at by a gingerbread door with watchful eyes up the hill from the Reverie Path rest point.

When you interact with this door, it tells you it’s hungry for cake and wants to throw a birthday bash. To open the door, you must bring it three pieces of cake. These pieces are rewards for interacting with various Gestrals in the area. The first is found at Gestral Resort, the second at Carousel Swings, and the third by completing a treasure hunt.

Gestral Resort Piece of Cake

You can get this piece at Gestral Resort, located to the right after you enter the main area. You’ll see several orange and blue Esquies around the resort, which you can switch between orange (“Whees”) and blue (“Whoos”).

Here, a Half-baked Lifeguard explains what the statues are about. Your goal is to balance the Whees and Whoos by switching three to blue and three to orange — all start as orange.

Once you do this, the Esquies will “click,” and you’ll be able to go back to the Lifeguard to claim your first cake piece and receive a new Double Bun Monoco haircut.

Toy Boat Treasure Hunt Piece of Cake

To find this piece, go downhill from Gestral Resort to a small pond, where three Gestrals are playing with toy boats. Talk to them and join their treasure hunt to find a lost toy boat at the waterfall’s end.

Follow the waterfall over the ledge, drop down, and go underneath to find the toy boat. Return it to the Gestrals to earn your second piece of cake.

Carousel Swings Piece of Cake

Head to the Carousel Swing area and talk to the Very Very Cool Gestral. Choose the “Standing in line is boring” option to skip the queue, then ride the swings with each character.

After everyone’s turn, you’ll unlock a new Esquie outfit for all five characters. Once all have swung, the Very Very Cool Gestral will give you the last piece of cake. Now, with a full cake, you can return to the gingerbread door and access the birthday party.

What’s Behind the Gingerbread Door?

Enjoy the birthday bash! Once you give the gingerbread door the cake, it opens up to a new area filled with flying trains and enemies. At Licornapieds Station, you’ll face off against Licornapieds to collect Frenzy Pictos, a new addition among many weapons in the DLC.

Overall, the Piece of Cake side quest is pretty straightforward. Although the rewards aren’t huge, the Frenzy Pictos is a fun and useful addition that’s likely to be part of every character build, offering a 10% damage increase with each hit—great for most gameplay styles.

Once you’ve completed the quest, you’re all set to enjoy the birthday celebration and explore the new areas unlocked by the gingerbread door.
