After finishing the "Laboratores" mission in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’re free to roam and explore the Trosky region without Hans by your side. One notable side quest you can take on is called "Lackey," which you can start by talking to Zlata.
Your main objective in this quest is to locate Zlata’s husband, Vostatek, but it’s not as straightforward as it seems. The "Lackey" quest can be tricky and involves making choices that lead to different outcomes. In this guide, we’ll walk you through completing the quest and achieving the best possible result.
How to Start the Lackey Quest
To kick off this mission, head west from Tachov. It’s a bit of a trek, but you’ll eventually find a house along the way, which might already be marked on your map. Once you arrive, speak with Zlata, who will inform you that Vostatek is missing.
Agree to help her, then have a conversation with her son, Vitek. It would be challenging to search for Vostatek without his guidance since the area to search is quite vast. Initially, Vitek will refuse to help, but you can pass a skill check to gather useful information from him.
Remember to opt for a persuasion skill check. With this new intel, you can now set out to find Vostatek.
Tip: If your persuasion skills aren’t high, consider leveraging your Charisma instead.
How to Find and Help Vostatek
From Vidlak Pond, exit through the west gate and follow the path to the right. Stay on this trail until you hear Vostatek calling for help; he’s being attacked by wolves. Defeat the wolves to rescue him.
Warning: If you leave the area without saving Vostatek, the quest will fail.
After saving him, he will unfortunately twist his ankle, and your new objective is to carry him to his hidden camp. His directions may seem a bit confusing, but don’t worry—the game will guide you. Stay by the river on the north side, and the objectives will update as you go.
Eventually, you’ll reach his hideout. Once you place him down, he’ll request some water. There’s a barrel nearby where you can fill up the waterskin he gives you. After this, he’ll ask you to find his horse, Pepik.
How to Find Pepik
While you could decline this request, doing so will harm your reputation and end the quest, so it’s better to accept. Look for some bamboo nearby to interact with, and the objective will update, prompting you to search for more clues along the path.
Note: You can choose to steal the horse at night, avoiding combat, but this will result in a lower reward.
Keep investigating clues as you proceed southeast. You’ll eventually arrive at a cliff where the poacher’s camp is located. Be cautious—there are five enemies, and engaging them head-on might be tough if you’re still early in the game.
We recommend using stealth to pick off enemies quietly, especially during the night. If you prefer not to fight them directly, luring one enemy for a one-on-one duel is a sound strategy.
Note: If you take the direct approach and defeat all the enemies, the last one will surrender. You can use skill checks to confiscate their weapons or belongings.
If fighting at night, keep in mind that two enemies will be asleep. Start by eliminating the one at the entrance quickly, then deal with the patrolling enemy. After this, you’ll have only one active combatant left before facing the two who are waking up.
Once all foes are defeated, locate Pepik, who might be in the center of the camp or at its edge. Ride him back to Vostatek.
Collect Your Reward from Vostatek
When you return with Pepik, talk to Vostatek, and he’ll ask you to ride with him back to his home. Upon arrival, you’ll engage in a conversation with his family. While you might have a skill check option here, you can simply choose the first dialogue option to complete the quest.
Your rewards will vary based on the choices you made throughout the quest:
- If you defeated all enemies and retrieved Pepik, you’ll earn 80 Groschen.
- If you didn’t fight or if the horse died, you’ll get 45 Groschen.
- If you only rescued Vostatek after saving him from the wolves, your reward will be 25 Groschen.
