Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 includes 32 main quests, with “So It Begins…” being the 27th, which means you’re nearing the conclusion of the game. After dealing with Erik—whether by fighting him or bypassing the battle—you need to focus on defending the fortress.
During this mission, Zizka promotes Henry to commander, which means you’ll need to gather some troops. There are side tasks to complete and a challenging confrontation ahead. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to complete this quest successfully.
How To Complete “So It Begins…” Quest
Your first task is to defend the fortress against attackers. Primarily, you need to knock down ladders. Make your way around the palisade and tumble any ladder within sight. Be sure to take out any enemy who makes it over the wall using a ladder.
If you find enemies swarming, hold back and let your allies draw their attention before you strike from behind. Eventually, the foes will attempt to breach the front gate. Collect some boulders and hurl them at any enemies trying to enter through the main gate. After enduring the assault for a while, the enemies will retreat. Rest for the night, and in the morning, Godwin will meet you and offer some advice. Follow him to speak with Zizka.
Before approaching Zizka, it’s wise to finish some additional tasks. First, chat with Janosh about food. Next, head to Frenzl and inquire about ammunition supplies. He’ll request you to sharpen two swords located on a nearby table. Use the sharpening wheel to repair them and then inform Frenzl of your progress.

You can also check in on Musa and Katherine at the infirmary, located in the northwest corner of the courtyard. After that, you’ll be ready to speak with Zizka.
Recruit The Members

Once you’ve talked to Zizka, he will make you a commander responsible for recruiting men. He’ll specify who needs to be recruited, so just refer to the coordinates on your map. After you’ve gathered everyone, they will congregate by the blacksmith.
When conversing with Zizka, heed Godwin’s advice: do not question his orders, and when Christian of Pisek seeks your input, respond that “Zizka should make that decision.” This choice will boost your reputation.
During the conversation, you’ll encounter skill checks. Aim to use the persuasion skill, such as “The Praguers won’t last long,” which was successful with only 17 points in our attempt. Next, instruct your men to bolster the night watch. This strategy will prepare you better for an impending night attack and further enhance your reputation with Zizka.

Afterward, take some time to rest. Head to your room, where you’ll see Hans Capon waiting outside. Speak with him and select the response “I have good men”. This choice typically succeeds, even with only a 14-point scholarship skill.
After your talk with Capon, go to sleep. Shortly after, the Dry Devil will wake you up.
Defeat The Enemies

After speaking with the Dry Devil, you’ll need to check on four locations. Although you can talk to the guards, it’s not essential. All you need to do is proceed to the eastern palisade.
Visiting the other guards marked on your map isn’t necessary; simply heading to the eastern one will suffice.
To reach it, follow the T marker on your map. Upon arrival, engage with the guard, who will act suspiciously. Inquire about his calling you a lord, and soon enough, he will attack. What you say won’t matter; he will strike regardless.
After he attacks, additional enemies will join the fray. Defeat those in the courtyard and then knock down the ladders. Once all the ladders are down, assist your allies in taking down any remaining enemies.

Eventually, everyone will gather in the outer courtyard. Wait for Zizka to arrive. When you speak with him, if you previously asked your men to reinforce the night watch, your reputation with Zizka will increase. If you didn’t choose that option, blame the Dry Devil for his negligence—this will also boost your reputation. Following this, a cutscene will play, concluding the quest.
