If you’re looking to strengthen your friendship with Poppy Sweeting in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to complete the quest titled A Bird In The Hand. This mission involves teaming up with Poppy to fend off poachers who are out to capture magical creatures throughout the Hogwarts Valley. You’ll also play a crucial role in protecting the elusive Golden Snidgets, which were previously thought to be extinct.

To initiate A Bird In The Hand, you must first have utilized all the spells you’ve unlocked while aiding Poppy in rescuing a dragon during the main story quest called Fire and Vice. Completing this task opens up Poppy’s relationship questline, giving you a chance to help her address the poaching threat and deepen your friendship.

How to Begin the A Bird In The Hand Quest in Hogwarts Legacy

Assist Poppy in the Search for Golden Snidgets

After you unlock Poppy’s questline, you’ll receive a message indicating the start of the A Bird In The Hand quest. She will request that you meet her and Dorran to explore a secret sanctuary where they believe Golden Snidgets may be hiding. Head to the designated spot on your map to meet them and kick off the quest, as shown in the YouTube video by Born 2 Game.

Following a brief cutscene, you will need to enter a ruin and solve a puzzle similar to the Bell Tower puzzle found in Hogwarts Legacy. The solution involves placing the moonstone on the pedestal to illuminate two symbols. These symbols can be seen on the ground by the two lighted pillars.

How to Solve the Pillar Puzzle

Complete the Puzzle to Unlock the Door and Battle the Poachers

Utilize the Accio spell to adjust the pillars so that their shadows align with the glowing symbols on the ruin’s door. Once the shadows match the symbols, the door will open, leading you to another puzzle.

Make sure you have your spell buttons organized for quick access, as you’ll be facing several enemies after activating the cubes to open the door.

Upon reaching a dead end inside the ruins, you’ll encounter an Elemental Cube Puzzle, similar to those found in the Treasure Vaults of Hogwarts Legacy. The first cube is located behind a tree to your left. You can use Wingardium Leviosa to shift it onto the platform with the fire icon, then use Incendio or Confringo to ignite it before moving on to the next cube.

The second cube can be found on the upper level to the right. To retrieve it, you will need to reposition the block on the left using Wingardium Leviosa. Once you are on the second floor, collect the cube and place it on the corresponding platform. After that, cast Glacius on it to open the next door.

Once you proceed, you will be ambushed by poachers. Use effective spell combos and resort to Ancient Magic to quickly dispatch them. Defeating all foes will allow you to unlock the door leading to the Snidget Sanctuary. Use Glacius once more to open the door, triggering a cutscene.

During this scene, Dorran will assure you that he will protect the Snidgets moving forward. Thus, you’ve successfully helped Poppy secure the safety of the Golden Snidgets, completing the A Bird In The Hand side quest for experience points in Hogwarts Legacy.
