Tips for Madden 25 allow fans to rewrite history. While it might not be easy for Eagles supporters, fans of other teams can use Madden 25 to reimagine how last season’s Lombardi Trophy was claimed. We’re here to guide you through Custom Stems, training camps, and so much more with our essential tips for Madden 25.
1. Choose One of the Top Five Teams
Getting started with one of the top teams is an easy choice. While Madden 25 isn’t flawless, it builds on last year’s game considerably with exciting new features like the kicking meter from College Football 25, the Switch Stick, and Custom Stem routes. To fully embrace these new mechanics, play a few matches with the best-rated teams. Players like Mahomes and Kelce make the Chiefs a blast to control, Miami’s roster is lightning-fast, and Lamar Jackson of the Ravens is even more powerful than the best version of Michael Vick. Check out the top five teams listed below along with their ratings:
- 1= Kansas City Chiefs – 92
- 1= San Francisco 49ers – 92
- 3= Baltimore Ravens – 91
- 4= Miami Dolphins – 89
- 5= Dallas Cowboys – 88
- 5= Detroit Lions – 88
2. Utilize the Custom Stem Feature for Receivers
Hot routing receivers has always given players a strategic benefit, but with the new Custom Stem feature, you can tweak the depth of a receiver’s route further down the field. Before the snap, hit the triangle button (PlayStation) or Y button (Xbox), followed by the button associated with the receiver whose route you want to adjust. Then, hold L1/LB and move the left stick or D-pad to extend the route or pull it back. Release L1/LB to finalize the new route. This tactic is fantastic for taking advantage of man coverage or aiming for a specific spot for a touchdown.
3. Perfect Your Use of the Switch Stick
The much-anticipated comeback of the Hit Stick may have garnered attention for defense, but the new Switch Stick is even more revolutionary. As the name implies, it allows you to quickly switch to the nearest defender with a flick of the right stick. For example, if a pass is thrown and a slot receiver is going past your nickel back, you can adjust a CB1 or CB2 to intercept the pass or tackle the receiver immediately after he catches the ball. Mastering this skill can be challenging, but top players will definitely find a way to utilize it during online matches. Keep in mind that you can only use the Switch Stick in Zone coverage and cannot switch to a player who is already engaged in a blitz.
4. Stop Retreating and Just Throw the Ball Away
Madden wouldn’t be the same without quarterbacks often retreating 15 yards and then tossing a long pass into a crowd. When it works, it feels exhilarating, but more often than not, it ends in a sack, interception, or a pass knockdown. Get comfortable maintaining your position in the pocket and let your left and right triggers do the work for you. Quarterbacks throw much more accurately when set up correctly. If you can’t find an open man on first or second down, escape the pocket and throw the ball away by moving the right stick in any direction. Madden handles quarterback performance effectively, so a realistic approach will yield greater rewards.
5. Take Training Camp Seriously
When starting a new franchise, it’s tempting to skip the pre-season games and jump directly to the regular season. But doing so in Madden 25 means missing out on valuable development time. Training Camp features mini-games that are both enjoyable and rewarding, but once you accept the outcome of a mini-game, you cannot replay it. So make sure to complete each one, aiming for gold, silver, or bronze medals. If you perform well enough, you might even promote a Superstar to an X-Factor player. Speaking of which…
6. Familiarize Yourself with X-Factors and Superstars
Check out our guide for the best Madden 25 players to discover this year’s top 50 athletes, but keep in mind that some players excel beyond their ratings due to their X-Factor and Superstar abilities. These traits can be crucial if you’re starting a franchise or building an Ultimate Team. For instance, both the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens have five X-Factor players, while the New England Patriots are the only team without any such designation. Notable newcomers with X-Factors include Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner (Shutdown) and Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (Double Me). You can find all the details in our Madden 25 X-Factors guide.
7. Activate All the Classic Madden Tracks
Do you remember popular tracks from past Madden games like “Party Hard” by Andrew WK or Green Day’s “American Idiot”? You can bring these songs back into the game! To add them to the main soundtrack and have them play in menus, press the touchpad (PlayStation) or View button (Xbox) on the home screen, then navigate to EA Music by pressing R1/RT. Scroll halfway down to find the classic tracks with empty checkboxes next to them. Tick any song you want to enjoy throughout the game by pressing X or A. From “No One Knows” to “In Da Club” and “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem,” it’s a fantastic playlist! Now, get ready for some Madden 25 excitement!
