Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) is evolving with new optional features for merchants. UCP is an open standard created by Google to improve agent-based commerce, enabling users to complete purchases directly across the web without relying on traditional storefronts or heavy integrations.
In a recent update from Digital Phablet, Google introduced several new optional capabilities available within UCP:
- Cart Functionality: This feature allows agents to add or save items into a shopping cart from a single retailer, streamlining the shopping process.
- Catalog Access: Agents can now retrieve detailed product information from a retailer’s catalog, including available variants, pricing, and stock levels.
- Identity Linking: Utilizing existing standards, this capability facilitates seamless integration so customers can receive loyalty rewards or membership benefits as they would on a retailer’s website.
These enhancements aim to make agent-mediated commerce more flexible and integrated, providing a smoother shopping experience across digital platforms.
