Digital Phablet – Rap artist Lil Nas X, renowned for his accomplishments, was detained in Los Angeles following a confrontation with law enforcement.
On Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m. (12:30 GMT), authorities responded to reports on Ventura Boulevard of an individual walking shirtless on the street, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Upon arrival, the artist behind “Old Town Road” reportedly charged at officers, leading to his arrest on suspicion of misconduct.
He was subsequently transported to a medical facility, where police spokesperson Charles Miller indicated he might have overdosed and required treatment. The BBC has contacted his representatives for further insights.
TMZ circulated an unverified video showing the artist dancing in the street in just his underwear and cowboy boots, inviting passersby to “come to the party.” The upcoming release of his second studio album, titled Dreamboy, remains highly anticipated, with previews shared on Instagram prior to its launch.
Born Montero Lamar Hill, Lil Nas X gained notoriety in 2019 when he received a Country Music Association award for “Old Town Road,” making him the first openly gay artist to win a CMA. The song spent 17 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record for the longest chart-topping run, and earned him two Grammy awards.
While the artist maintains significant popularity, his controversial music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” faced criticism from many in the U.S., who labeled it as “depraved” and “evil.” Lil Nas X responded on Twitter, expressing a desire for his detractors’ tears to “fill my Grammy cup” and posted a satirical apology video that humorously interrupted the signature lap dance scene from the video.
While still in the public eye, his controversial moments continue to generate discussion and debate across social media platforms.
