Ortiz faces 14 charges, including attempted murder, using a firearm, assault with a semi-automatic weapon, and firing into an occupied building, among other enhancements.
She appeared promptly in a Los Angeles criminal court on Tuesday afternoon, but her arraignment has been postponed until later this month.
According to Los Angeles law enforcement, Ortiz traveled from Florida to Los Angeles prior to the incident. From what I understand, a man drove here from Florida. How long have they resided there? “I don’t have that information,” stated Jim McDonnell, LAPD Chief. “That is currently being researched.” One reason for her trip could be related to this incident. While the motive remains unclear, authorities are examining social media activity as part of their investigation.
Police reports indicate that she journeyed to the singer’s home on Sunday afternoon armed with a semi-automatic weapon and fired multiple shots at the property. Rihanna was at home with her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, her mother, and two staff members at the time. Fortunately, no injuries occurred.
Initially, Ortiz’s bail was set at over $10 million but was later reduced to $1.875 million. The police have confirmed that the shooting resulted in injuries to 10 individuals, which contributed to the original high bail amount. The reason for the reduction is not yet clear.
Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz. She has a history of erratic social media communications targeting Rihanna, including a recent post where she said, “Listen, when you die, God will take me to my future. Yeah, she wants to kill me.” She also told Rihanna, “Quit making that noise.”
During a press briefing, Deputy District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the severity of such acts, stating, “The message is clear and straightforward: if you come into this county with guns and aim them at homes with people inside, we will arrest, charge, and punish you.” He added that investigators are thoroughly exploring Ortiz’s social media history and all available evidence to understand her motives.
If convicted on all charges, Ortiz could spend the rest of her life in state prison.
Photos of Rihanna’s $14 million Beverly Hills estate reveal heavy security measures, yet someone still managed to breach the defenses and fire at her home, raising concerns about security vulnerabilities and public safety.
More details regarding the incident include that several shots were fired at the residence, but none penetrated inside. Most of the damage was confined to the exterior, with some bullets hitting the house’s exterior and a parked car. Video footage from the scene shows tape covering bullet holes on the front gate.
Sources suggest Ortiz used a firearm resembling an AR-15—a lightweight semi-automatic rifle widely used by civilians and military alike. Bullet holes were found in two neighboring homes on the street.
Dispatch audio reveals that officers tracked Ortiz’s Tesla into a mall parking garage, where she was stopped and detained. Authorities are investigating whether Ortiz was aware that Rihanna was living at the residence. They are examining her social media activity and other evidence to piece together her intentions.
Rihanna shares three children with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky.
