A new and controversial movement has recently taken over social media in the Arab world, with users urging a boycott of so-called “worthless” influencers based in Dubai, who have amassed millions of followers and views over the years.

The campaigns titled “Boycott the Influencers” and “Unfollow Dubai Squad” encourage Arab social media users to disconnect from certain content creators, alleging that their lavish lifestyles deceive the public and contribute to unrealistic social expectations.

Many critics argue that numerous Arab influencers are making their followers less intelligent, criticizing their content as uneducational and devoid of meaningful value.

### Why are people calling to boycott popular Arab TikTok influencers?

On social media, some have expressed diverse opinions. While some agree with the boycott, others highlight issues such as accusations of influencers exploiting their followers for fame and monetary gain, endorsing products that support the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, or remaining silent about the conflict.

Notable Arab influencers targeted in this movement include Asala Maleh, Narin’s Beauty, Sherin Amara, Osama Marwah, Sara Al-Wara, Ghaith Marwan, Noor Stars, Shahad, among others.

Although it’s too early to assess the full impact of this campaign, smaller creators have voiced concerns on their official social media channels about a noticeable drop in their followers. They emphasize that they are not connected to the influencers being targeted and are affected by the broader boycott wave.
