ALBAWABA – Suga from BTS makes a significant donation to support an autism care center.
BTS member Suga has made headlines by donating 5 billion won (approximately $3.62 million) to Seoul’s Severance Hospital. This generous contribution will aid in the establishment of a new treatment center dedicated to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
On Friday, the hospital announced the upcoming launch of the “Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center,” named after Suga’s birth name. Set to open in September, the center will offer comprehensive mental health services tailored to individual needs, including behavioral, psychological, and speech therapy, alongside integrated programs that merge research and therapeutic practices.
Hospital representatives noted Suga’s unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy throughout his career with BTS.

Suga has not only made financial contributions but has also shown a deep interest in aiding young people facing behavioral and emotional challenges. The hospital remarked that he has been exploring ways to leverage his music for positive change.
Last November, Suga collaborated with Dr. Cheon Keun-ah, a leading child psychiatrist at Severance, to better understand the needs of children with autism. This partnership led to the creation of the “MIND” program (Music, Interaction, Network, Diversity), aimed at using music therapy to enhance the social and emotional skills of children with autism.
This spring, Suga volunteered at the hospital on weekends, engaging with children in the MIND program. He led activities where music served as a vehicle for communication and emotional expression, incorporating rhythmic exercises and playing the guitar.
Officials at the hospital observed significant improvements in the children’s collaboration and communication during the program.
Reflecting on his experiences, Suga stated, “I realized that music can serve as a powerful means of expressing emotions and connecting with the world. It has been fulfilling to participate in the autism treatment journey for these children. I am committed to supporting more kids in becoming meaningful contributors to society.”
Dr. Cheon praised Suga for his dedication, highlighting the center’s aspiration to empower autistic youth to become independent and respected members of the community.
Having just completed his mandatory 21-month social service in the military, Suga’s groundbreaking donation and active involvement mark a transformative step in celebrity-driven charity and mental health advocacy in South Korea.
