Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Skip Trooping the Colour 2025 Amid Royal Strain
ALBAWABA – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were notably absent from the 2025 Trooping the Colour, a significant annual event held on Saturday, June 14, to celebrate King Charles’s birthday. This marks the third consecutive year that the couple has not been invited.
This traditional celebration is held regardless of the monarch’s actual birthday and includes a coronation parade as well as a royal family gathering on the balcony of Buckingham Palace alongside a military display.
The last time they participated in a royal event was during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. However, they chose to remain out of the public eye by observing from a private area instead of the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Due to ongoing tensions within the royal family, Harry and Meghan were not part of the festivities in 2023 or 2024 either. Their relationship has reportedly worsened following Harry’s unsuccessful legal efforts to regain personal security in the UK. In a BBC interview, he expressed his desire to reconcile but mentioned that his father isn’t currently in communication with him due to these issues.
In related news, for the second year in a row, King Charles is expected to attend Trooping the Colour in his wooden car while still undergoing chemotherapy. Additionally, Meghan’s appearance at a charity event in Los Angeles was postponed due to protests in the city.
Attending the Trooping this year along with Queen Camilla are Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and several of the king’s cousins. The couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, have only visited the United Kingdom once, during the 2022 jubilee, and have not yet attended this particular ceremony.
Royal expert Sally Bedell Smith noted that the primary reason for the rift between Harry and his father stems from a "lack of trust."
