Greene, born in New Jersey, often portrayed criminals, mobsters, and corrupt police officers. During the mid-1990s, he took on three notable roles of this type. He is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of Zed in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction, a malevolent and brutal security guard whose death in a medieval style led Bruce Willis to utter the famous line, “Zed’s dead, baby.”
Following that iconic role, Greene played the primary mobster Dorian Tyrell in The Mask, a comedy-action film starring Jim Carrey. He also appeared as Redfoot, a fence, in the 1995 hit The Usual Suspects.
His debut notable role was that of a man with schizophrenia in the 1993 indie film Clean, Shaven, which was well-received by critics. Throughout the 1990s, Greene appeared in movies such as Judgment Night, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, and Blue Streak. In the past two decades, he portrayed a dishonest drug enforcement officer in the 2001 film Training Day and appeared in episodes of Hawaii Five-O, Justified, Chicago P.D., and the John Wick spin-off series The Continental.
Edwards, his manager, described him to Deadline, saying, “He was one of the finest character actors in the world.” He was a loyal friend and loved by many; his absence will be deeply felt and he will not be forgotten.
