Mabel Matiz, a Turkish artist, is currently entangled in significant legal issues. An investigation has been initiated in Istanbul over his track “Perperişan,” with authorities claiming that its lyrics are offensive and inappropriate for young audiences.
The legal charges recommend a jail sentence ranging from six months to three years. Officials allege that the song “provokes sexual desire” and contains suggestive language. They further state that the lyrics are easily understandable by the general public and that age restrictions should have been enforced.
In relation to the investigation, the Ankara Criminal Court of Peace has effectively blocked access to the song. The Ministry of Family and Social Services has requested a formal decision, citing concerns that the content undermines public health and societal order. Consequently, the song has been removed from platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.
Fatih Karaca, popularly known as Mabel Matiz, denies these allegations. He told law enforcement that there was no intention behind the song to be inappropriate. He explained that he authored the track but only performed it once during a concert in September 2025. He has since removed it from his performance setlist.
Matiz shared online, “I hope that public order and our well-being are not so fragile that they can be disturbed by a single song.” He expressed gratitude to his supporters and extended forgiveness to anyone who might have been hurt by the incident.
He has also been instructed by the court not to travel outside Turkey during the investigation, raising concerns about his upcoming international performances later this year due to the travel ban.
The case was initiated following reports submitted through CěMER, the Presidential Communication Center, with claims that the lyrics negatively impact moral values and development among children.
This legal action has sparked widespread discussion. Supporters argue the trial is an infringement on artistic freedom, while others believe laws should guard against harmful content.
Mabel Matiz’s distinctive and influential voice remains one of Turkey’s most recognized. However, his future — and that of his career — now hinges on the court’s decision rather than his performances on stage.
The trial continues in Istanbul, and all eyes are on the upcoming verdict.
