Digital Phablet – Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, recently ignited a controversy on social media for hiring professional dwarves to commemorate his 18th birthday.
As reported by Goal, the young Spanish footballer celebrated this milestone over the weekend with friends and family. Earlier this summer, Yamal signed a new contract with Barcelona, securing his future with the prestigious club until the end of the 2030-31 season.
As he dons the iconic number 10 jersey, previously worn by legends like Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Ronaldinho, Yamal has some big expectations placed on him.
Lamine Yamal Stirs Controversy by Hiring Dwarves for His Birthday
The decision to include professional dwarves in the celebrations has drawn sharp criticism, notably from organizations such as the Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias (ADEE), which have publicly condemned the act.
A representative from the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE) also expressed disapproval of Yamal’s actions.
In light of the situation, ADEE is taking legal measures against Yamal, labeling the incident as “unacceptable” for perpetuating stereotypes and fostering discrimination, while undermining the dignity and rights of individuals with achondroplasia and other disabilities.
The President of ADEE, Carolina Puente, addressed the impact of featuring dwarves as entertainment at private events, emphasizing the potential harm from high-profile individuals like Lamine Yamal endorsing such practices.
