Kylie Jenner revealed she was unaware of her beauty brand’s earnings due to not having access to her account password.
The 27-year-old reality television personality launched Kylie Cosmetics in 2015, initially known as Lip Kit by Kylie, which offered only a liquid lipstick and lip liner duo. She admitted she was shocked to discover just how profitable her business had become within its first year, raking in millions.
In an interview with Dazed magazine, she shared, “I didn’t even have my Shopify account password, so I had no clue how much I was making. I knew it was doing well, but I just didn’t…”
She continued, “Honestly, it wasn’t about the money for me. It was more of a creative outlet where I could bring joy to others. About a year later, when I finally got access to the account, I was blown away by the numbers.”
According to reports, her beauty brand generated $420 million in revenue within its first 18 months, solely from lip kits. The brand was rebranded to Kylie Cosmetics in 2016 and has since expanded to include a diverse range of beauty products and skincare lines.
By the end of 2016, the brand’s annual revenue reportedly reached about $300 million. In 2019, Kylie sold a controlling interest in her company to Coty, a major player in the beauty industry, for an impressive $600 million.
Kylie reflected on her journey as she approaches the 10th anniversary of her brand, expressing gratitude for her achievements. “As I celebrate a decade of Kylie Cosmetics, I find myself reminiscing about the early days,” she said. “Looking back, I realize I may not have recognized the magnitude of my success at that time.”
“I was so young and had endless opportunities; I still feel that way. My goal now is to be present and appreciate the incredible blessings in my life rather than wait 20 years to reflect.”
