Headline: Jennifer Lopez Hit with $300K Lawsuit for Reposting Her Own Photos
Jennifer Lopez, the iconic entertainer, is currently embroiled in a significant legal battle. A photographer, Edwin Blanco, along with his agency, has lodged a lawsuit against her for allegedly reposting photos taken of her without proper authorization.
The dispute centers around images Lopez shared from a pre-Golden Globes party held in Los Angeles last January, hosted by Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair. Dressed in a stunning white Silvia Cherassi gown accented with floral designs, a luxurious fur coat, Gianvito Rossi shoes, and a Chanel handbag, the 55-year-old appeared glamorous in the photos.
In her post, which accompanied a caption stating, "GG Weekend Glamour," Lopez likely didn’t anticipate the legal ramifications that would follow. The lawsuit claims that Lopez’s use of these images was for commercial benefits, seeking up to $150,000 for each infringed image—totaling $300,000.
Legal documents indicate that Lopez used the images to bolster her media presence and promote collaborations with various fashion brands. Despite attempts by the photographer and his agency to negotiate a financial arrangement with her representatives, they haven’t finalized any agreements yet.
Lopez isn’t alone in facing such lawsuits; she has dealt with similar legal challenges in the past, with cases in 2019 and 2020 leading to undisclosed settlements. This trend among celebrities is on the rise, with other high-profile figures like Gigi Hadid and Dua Lipa also encountering lawsuits for similar reasons.
It’s crucial to note that the law generally attributes copyright ownership to the photographer, not to the subject of the image, which adds another layer to this ongoing case.
