Digital Phablet – Hannah Einbinder Makes a Bold Statement at the Emmys After Securing Win
Hannah Einbinder took the stage at the Emmys to voice her support for the people of Gaza and to condemn the recent attacks on refugees by the Trump administration.
On Saturday night, Einbinder received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks. During her acceptance speech, she chose to highlight political issues.
“I just want to say, go birds, f*** ICE, and free Palestine,” declared “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder during the ceremony.
She was seen wearing an Artists4Ceasefire pin on her dress. (Her mention of the “birds” was a nod to the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the Kansas City Chiefs earlier that day.)
During the live broadcast, both CBS and Paramount+ chose to omit the profanity, replacing it with a wide-angle shot of the audience before focusing back on Einbinder to display the ending of the word “ICE.”
“This subject is incredibly important to me for many reasons,” she shared backstage. “As a Jewish individual, I feel it’s essential to distinguish between Jews and the state of Israel. Our culture and religion are so vital and rooted in history that they shouldn’t be conflated with this nationalist agenda.”
At the event, Einbinder was not the only cast member from Hacks to voice opinions on the escalating violence between Israel and Gaza. Early in the evening, actress Meg Stalter, known for her flamboyant style, carried a black leather bag with white tape that read “CEASE FIRE!”
Her recent social media posts also reflect her stance; she shared stories about Israel’s relentless bombings on Gaza and co-posted a July call to action from Artists4Ceasefire, urging world leaders to intervene immediately to allow aid into Gaza and to secure the release of hostages.
Following her speech, host Nate Bargatze poked fun at her use of profanity, joking, “She also cursed… I’m going to start a swear jar immediately,” referencing his ongoing Boys and Girls Club fund, which grows with each use of a swear word during the show.
Einbinder’s victory marked her surpassing rivals like last year’s winner Liza Colón-Zayas, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Jessica Williams, all vying for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Behind the scenes, she elaborated on her stance, emphasizing the importance of differentiating her Jewish identity from political stances of the Israeli government, stating:
“As a Jewish person, it’s my duty to clarify that our culture and religion are long-standing and meaningful, and they shouldn’t be intertwined with the ethnonationalist policies that currently dominate the state of Israel.”
Throughout the night, expressions of political activism continued. Megan Stalter, donned in her signature eccentric style, proudly carried her “CEASE FIRE!” bag, making her viewpoint clear.
Einbinder’s heartfelt messages extend beyond the awards, as she actively advocates for peace and humanitarian aid through her involvement with Artists4Ceasefire, calling for urgent international action to end hostilities and provide relief to those suffering in Gaza.
