Aşk ve Gözyaşı Debuts Strongly with Barış Arduç and Hande Erçel
The eagerly anticipated Turkish adaptation of Queen of Tears has now premiered. Titled Aşk ve Gözyaşı (Love and Tears), the series stars Hande Erçel and Barış Arduç in leading roles. It debuted this September on ATV and is also available on Shahid. Viewers across Turkey and internationally are buzzing with excitement.
Hande Erçel portrays Meyra Aksel Keskin, the sole daughter of a wealthy family and the heiress to their business empire. Barış Arduç stars as her husband, Selim Keskin, who is also part of the family business. Outwardly, their marriage appears to be solid, but internal family pressures and personal struggles begin to fracture the façade. Just as divorce seems imminent, a dramatic twist compels the couple to confront new challenges together.
The storyline closely mirrors the popular Korean drama Queen of Tears, which earlier this year became one of Netflix’s top K-dramas worldwide. The performances of Kim Ji-won and Kim Soo-hyun in the original left a profound mark, drawing further attention to the Turkish remake.
Before its release, many on social media drew comparisons between Erçel and Ji-won, highlighting similarities in styling, wardrobe choices, and even promotional materials. Some fans pointed out that one of Erçel’s scenes bore a striking resemblance to Kim Ji-won’s iconic walk from the Korean series.
The plot has sparked lively discussions among viewers, with many questioning whether Erçel can match or surpass Ji-won’s portrayal. Others argue that each version should be judged independently.
The production team behind Aşk ve Gözyaşı includes director Engin Erden and screenplay writer Dilara Pamuk. The show is produced by O3 Medya and Dass Yapım and was filmed in Istanbul. Its prime Friday night slot on ATV makes it one of the season’s most competitive programs.
The excitement continues to build as audiences eagerly await if Aşk ve Gözyaşı can live up to the global acclaim of Queen of Tears.
