Gwyneth Paltrow has recently been appointed as a temporary spokesperson for Astronomer following the viral Coldplay kiss-cam incident involving the company’s former CEO and chief people officer. The company surprised her with a humorous parody video on Friday night, in which she jokingly stated that she was “appointed temporarily to represent the team of over 300 employees at Astronomer.”
The scandal drew numerous questions from the public, and Paltrow addressed the most common ones during a humorous online segment. As the question “OMG! What’s happening?” appeared on the screen, she responded with, “Yes, Astronomer is the top platform for managing Apache Airflow,” expressing enthusiasm that public interest in data automation is resurging.
She also briefly responded to other inquiries, including one about the company’s social media team’s current status. Prior to her comments, a tweet from Astronomer acknowledged the increased curiosity about the company following the incident during Coldplay’s Boston concert on July 16, where the company’s former CEO and chief people officer awkwardly exited the camera frame after realizing they were being filmed for the kiss-cam. Lead singer Chris Martin joked on stage, “Perhaps they’re in a relationship, or maybe they’re just shy.”
Notably, Martin’s remark was made in context, as he is a former spouse of Paltrow — which added a layer of humor to the situation. Following the incident, both Byron and Cabot resigned from their positions at Astronomer.
The scandal significantly boosted the company’s visibility; notably, Coldplay’s on-demand music streams increased by 25% on the day after the event, according to data from Luminate. The band, which has secured seven Grammy Awards, achieved 28.7 million streams in the five days leading up to their Boston performance.
Overall, the incident generated substantial media and public attention, blending entertainment and corporate saga in a way that increased interest both in Astronomer’s activities and Coldplay’s music.
