After its Halo-themed post, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has now turned to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings in an effort to recruit new ICE agents by quoting a heartfelt scene from the beloved and award-winning fantasy series.
DHS took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a well-known moment between Merry and Pippin. The government’s official social media account noted Merry’s words: “There won’t be a Shire, Pippin,” accompanied by a link to the ICE recruitment website.
The post received millions of views and thousands of interactions but was met with mixed reactions from X users, many suggesting that Homeland Security missed the point by not fully understanding the plot and message of The Lord of the Rings.
One social media user responded, saying, “Babe, wake up! DHS has moved on from Halo tweets to LOTR tweets.”

A journalist, Alyssa Mercante, reached out to DHS and received a statement: “We aim to connect with people where they are through content they can relate to and understand, whether that’s Halo, Pokémon, Lord of the Rings, or any other medium.”
Recently, DHS faced criticism for posting a Pokémon video depicting ICE agents “catching them all,” with the anime’s theme song playing in the background. The video showed ICE agents arresting individuals and breaking into their homes.
The official statement from DHS added, “We remain laser-focused on raising awareness about the surge of crime caused by illegal aliens. We’re not slowing down.”
