Digital Phablet – The renowned Albanian-English pop star Dua Lipa allegedly terminated her manager’s contract after he endorsed a letter urging the exclusion of Irish rap group Kneecap from the Glastonbury Festival in July, due to their stance supporting Palestine.
As reported by The Mail on Sunday, multiple industry representatives also signed this letter, which was addressed to Michael Eavis, the founder of the festival, advocating for Kneecap’s removal from the performer lineup.
However, the letter was leaked on social media platforms, igniting widespread criticism and condemnation from pro-Palestine supporters and other music industry figures. Despite the controversy, Kneecap still performed at Glastonbury in July, where they expressed their backing for Palestine.
Dua Lipa dismisses manager for opposing pro-Palestine band Kneecap
A tweet from A Shot. highlighted:
“Dua Lipa has parted ways with her agent David Levy after he signed a petition aimed at preventing KNEECAP from performing at Glastonbury, due to their pro-Palestine activism. She considers him a supporter of Israel’s war in Gaza and the poor treatment of Palestinians.” Link to tweet
Following the leak, Lipa decided to sever ties with David Levy, her representative at WME, upon discovering his role in endorsing the letter. Lipa has consistently shown her support for Palestine and has called for a ceasefire in Gaza. Reports also suggest that Levy’s stance does not align with her political views.
A source close to Lipa stated, “She believes he supports Israel’s actions in Gaza, and his signing of that letter clearly reflects his position.”
Since October 7, 2023, ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza have claimed the lives of over 65,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 166,000. Additionally, 440 Palestinians, including 147 children, have died from malnutrition, according to the Strip’s Health Ministry.
