Digital Phablet — The renowned Canadian hip-hop artist Drake recently captivated his Arab fans and audience by sampling Fairuz’s legendary song “Wahdon” in a teaser for his upcoming album, “ICEMAN.”
Known as “The Voice of Lebanon,” Fairuz is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and legendary singers in the Arab music world. Her calming melodies are deeply appreciated among Middle Eastern communities and are frequently played in Lebanese cafes and breakfast spots around the world.
Drake Incorporates Fairuz’s “Wahdon” in His New Album “ICEMAN”
In a livestream teaser for his ninth studio project, “ICEMAN,” Drake features a sample of “Wahdon,” infused with a relaxed lo-fi vibe and a mellow beat behind it.
While many listeners praised Drake’s unconventional sampling choice, there were some who voiced their disapproval, claiming that the added beat diminished the song’s essence. One social media comment on YouTube read, “They just ruined the song.”
Conversely, another YouTube user commented, “This beat is already fire, but adding the Fairuz sample elevates it even more. I really hope Drake raps over this.”
“Wahdon” was penned by poet Talal Haidar and composed by the late Ziad Rahbani, who was Fairuz’s son and one of Lebanon’s most celebrated composers and performers. The song deals with themes such as solitude and the quiet emptiness left behind by friends who gradually drift apart over time.
Drake’s ninth studio album is anticipated to be released on streaming platforms in late 2025 through OVO Sound and Republic Records. According to the community on Genius, the artist is expected to drop the album on October 31, 2025.
