ALBAWABA – The announcement of Borderlands 4 has taken social media by storm, particularly due to backlash over its newly revealed pricey collector’s edition.
The Echo-4 bundle features a variety of items including in-game cosmetics, art prints, a vault symbol necklace, a map of Karos, an Echo-4 figurine with LED lights, and several in-game codes. However, many fans were disappointed to find that the $149.99 bundle does not actually include the game itself. This means purchasers will need to spend an additional $69.99 to buy Borderlands 4 separately.
Fans expressed their disappointment in the comments section of Wario64’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter). One comment read, “This is definitely a wake-up call regarding how this company values its fans.”
Collector’s Edition Lacks the Game
Borderlands 4 has faced ongoing scrutiny as it approaches its 2025 release, particularly following remarks from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford in response to fans criticizing the game’s prior price of $79.99.
Pitchford sparked controversy when accused of “gaslighting” Borderlands enthusiasts after he replied to a critique about the game’s pricing on X (formerly Twitter).
He addressed one frustrated fan, saying: “A) This wasn’t my decision. B) If you’re a true fan, you’ll find a way to make it work. Back in 1991, I bought Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 while working minimum wage at an ice cream shop.”
A contrasting voice on X criticized Pitchford, stating, “We’re not spending $80 for a Borderlands game, especially knowing you will likely offer several season passes for another $100 and sell additional cosmetic items.”
