Digital Phablet – Artificial intelligence is now encroaching on the space of human musicians as well. An AI-created band named ‘Bleeding Verse’ quickly gained attention on social media after it was revealed that this artificial group has accumulated over 800,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with some of their tracks reaching millions of plays.
According to its official Spotify profile, Bleeding Verse “designs alt-metal anthems for the emotionally vulnerable” by incorporating “haunting vocals, immersive soundscapes, and lyrics drawn from the quietest corners of the soul.” The band’s description clarifies that while the lyrics are penned by people, the music itself is generated by AI. Furthermore, a review of their discography shows that Bleeding Verse has been releasing an extensive amount of AI-produced music, including a full-length album, several EPs, and singles, making it nearly impossible for human artists to compete.
Bleeding Verse: This AI band boasts over 800,000 monthly listeners on Spotify
In just two months, the AI-assisted band ‘Bleeding Verse’ has surpassed some of their major influences on Spotify, reaching approximately 897,000 monthly listeners. The Welsh post-hardcore band Holding Absence expressed their feelings about this achievement, stating, “It’s disheartening, it’s insulting – most importantly – it’s a wake-up call,” in response to the rise of Bleeding Verse.
Lead vocalist Lucas Woodland recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) his disappointment, writing, “So, an AI band modeled after us, citing us as an influence, has just overtaken us on Spotify in just TWO months.”
He added, “It’s shocking, it’s disheartening, it’s insulting – most importantly, it’s a wake-up call. Oppose AI music, or bands like us will cease to exist.” His post quickly garnered over two million views and a wave of supportive comments. Additionally, another user on X compiled a Spotify playlist featuring AI-generated bands, intended as a resource for music fans who wish to boycott artificial music.
Many smaller bands, such as Dayseeker and Holding Absence, already face tough economic challenges, including limited revenue from streaming platforms like Spotify. To sustain themselves, many are compelled to tour frequently, which can lead to burnout and exhaustion.
This growing concern has led advocates and dedicated listeners to encourage the support of genuine bands by purchasing their music and merchandise through platforms like Bandcamp.
As AI technology continues to evolve and become more widespread, counterfeit bands like Bleeding Verse are expected to proliferate. Unless the support and listenership for human artists decline, these AI acts will likely keep gaining ground, challenging the future of traditional music creation.
