Her family announced her death, sharing the news on social media Friday. She was 35.
A statement from Lee’s official Instagram page expressed, “Mickey Lee’s family mourns her passing on Christmas evening with heavy hearts.” Her memorable appearance on “Big Brother” “touched audiences across the country” and brought happiness to her fans and loved ones, her family stated.
Lee suffered several heart attacks this month caused by flu-related issues, prompting her loved ones to initiate a GoFundMe to support her. At that time, the fundraiser indicated Lee was in the ICU in critical but stable condition, surrounded by family, friends, and medical staff.
The campaign explained that her sudden health crisis placed significant emotional and financial strain on her and her family, highlighting the high costs associated with hospital care and ongoing treatment.
Julie Chen Moonves paid tribute, noting that Mickey Lee was born with a hole in her heart, a detail her co-stars also acknowledged.
Lee was a standout contestant on “Big Brother” Season 27, admired for her authenticity, strength, and determination to win. Prior to her appearance on the show, she worked as a creative professional and event curator in Atlanta, her residence, and Jacksonville, Florida, her hometown.
Her family shared that she formed genuine connections both on and off screen, and that her fans and fellow contestants will always keep her memory alive.
Social media also highlighted her popularity, with posts remembering her joyful spirit.
The family expressed that many will remember her for the happiness she brought into their lives.
