Digital Phablet – Recently, ABC made the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show following his comments regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the alleged shooter at Utah Valley University.
An ABC spokesperson announced, “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” without providing additional details about the incident. According to CNN, this move came just hours after a Trump administration official responsible for ABC’s public licensing pressured the network to take action against Kimmel.
This decision elicited mixed reactions across social media platforms. Some users accused ABC of aligning with the Trump administration, while many others expressed support for Kimmel, with posts advocating that he should not have been suspended over his comments, citing free speech concerns. Numerous free speech advocacy groups also condemned ABC, labeling its response as cowardly.
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate the suspension, writing, “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what needed to be done,” and adding, “That leaves Jimmy (Fallon) and Seth, two complete losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are terrible. Do it NBC!!!”
What led to ABC’s fallout with Jimmy Kimmel?
During his Monday monologue, the well-known TV host discussed the MAGA movement and how it was attempting to shift focus from the fact that Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, was a Republican, influenced by his parents’ political views.
He stated, “The MAGA Gang is desperately trying to frame this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and will do anything to score political points from it,” Kimmel explained. “Meanwhile, there’s real grief happening amid all the finger-pointing.”
Background on Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s shooting
Charlie Kirk was reportedly shot in the neck on September 10, 2025, allegedly by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. The incident occurred while Kirk was participating in a debate at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour, causing chaos on campus.
Robinson was later arrested on charges of aggravated murder and multiple other offenses. He appeared in virtual court yesterday. Prosecutors revealed evidence, including text messages between Robinson and his family, in which he admitted to the killing. Robinson reportedly expressed frustration with Kirk’s perceived hatred and stated he would turn himself in, which he subsequently did. Prosecutors are now seeking the death penalty for Robinson based on the evidence.
Note: This entire situation has sparked significant debate regarding free speech, political bias, and the appropriate response to such incidents, reflecting the ongoing tensions in the national conversation.
